Hi everybody, my question is what’s it like being a transfer student at Colby?
Do most people find it difficult to make friends/ adjust? I feel like a lot of the welcome/ orientation (coot) events are aimed at freshmen. I’m just worried that I am going to arrive and all the friend groups will already be set- I am relatively outgoing and tend to make friends but i also can be a little shy if I feel uncomfortable, I just wanted to here about others experiences. Any insight into the life of a transfer at Colby would be arpriciated but also any other Small LAC (bates, Bowdoin, Middleburry, amherst ect)
In my opinion, being a transfer student and adjusting to life at Colby isn’t hard at all. If you are a fall transfer, you have a COOT trip with just the transfer students and participate in orientation activities as well. Usually there’s a couple sophomores or juniors attached to the transfer students in the beginning to help you adjust; usually some from admissions and some from campus life. I gave the transfer tours this year and helped a number of them just taking them around for dinners and parties to meet different groups on campus.
I would try to be as outgoing as possible and meet a lot of students in different groups. Also try to join a number of clubs and see which ones you like.
do you live with the other transfers also?
As a transfer student, you’ll most likely get paired with another transfer student for your first year. There’ll be transfer students dinners with student leaders and also ways to integrate yourself better.
If you’re asking if I live with the other transfers - I don’t since I wasn’t a transfer student.
