Transfer, MBA

Hi guys,

I am a California community college student and I am studying for a Bachelor’s degree in either Economics or Finance, and I am interested in transferring to a University of California school in two years after completing my Associate’s degree and the transfer prerequisite agreements.

I would like to ask if undergraduate majors mattered for an MBA. The schools that I am looking into are-UCSD, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, or UC Davis. Does it matter if I want to attend a top university for graduate school, what my undergraduate major is? I am deciding if I should just choose an easy major, get a high GPA and test scores, then apply for an MBA.

Am I doing this all wrong?

Yes you are.

An undergrad degree is not the best prep for an MBA. Many top business schools require at least 2 years of full time post bachelor’s work experience.

Also the top business schools will not be impressed ny an easy undergrad major.

Your undergraduate major does not matter much for MBA admission. Your GPA, GMAT score, and professor’s letters of recommendation do matter. However, the most critical factor will probably be your work experience. Good MBA programs expect a bare minimum of two years of increasingly responsible professional experience - and more years of experience would be better. Those programs will also expect excellent letters of recommendation from your work supervisors.
