Transfer or Enroll as Freshman?

Hi, I am a freshman at Dickinson College in PA and interested in potetially transferring to Swarthmore College. I was rejected last year; however, they sent me a letter in the mail informing me about the McCabe scholarship, which is a four-year scholarship. Now, I don't understand why they would send me this letter in the first place, especially since they rejected me last year, and I was wondering if I could technically still apply as a freshman and then have my college credits and ap credits get sorted out afterward if accepted and potentially have sophomore standing. Should I just apply as a freshman, or call them and ask why they sent me the letter after rejecting me and wait until the transfer application is due? I'm so conflicted... colleges are evil sometimes.

I really don't think it's "legal" for you to apply as a freshman student. Definitely call the office, but I think you're automatically considered a transfer if you've previously been enrolled full time at a college.

on most application forms they ask something of this nature- have you previously been enrolled at any college...?

Why are you leaving Dickinson?

Usually the rule of thumb is: if you've been at another college for more than a year - you're considered a transfer no matter what.

You absolutely can not apply as a freshman. You have to go as a transfer.

i'm not sure if i'm i'm exactly leaving dickinson, but the distance from a city and the fact that the campus activities are very alcohol-based is a bit of a deterrant socially. Like I'm either limited to watching movies inside the dorm or going to some shady frat party that I don't want to be at. Carlisle doesn't offer many opportunities from fun, especially coming from a suburb of Philadelphia.

Alcohol and frats are more a part of freshman year than they are of the remaining years, unless you join a frat.

but why should i be spending 43,000 a year to go to a school in a city that offers nothing when i could pay less to go to a school in or near a major city and have more opportunities for cultural enrichment?

What do you think of the academics at Dickinson? How are the classes?
