For now, i think i will attend UCSC in fall 2011. but i dont really wanna stuck there for 4 years.(maybe i change my mind after i go there) so i am plan to transfer to Cal or UCSD for engineering in two years? any advice or plan? such as what GPA, course should i have, do they need high school GPA, SAT, etc.

Employment chance might be easier in UCSC cuz it is really close to Silicon valley.

Priority consideration for transfer to the two UCs you mentioned goes to CCC students. Why not just save the $60k and do the CCC to UC route? That way you won’t be “stuck there” for two years and you’ll free up a spot for someone who actually wants to attend ;)

haha i don’t wanna lost my first year experience, only one time in life you know. Also im not saying UCSC is bad, just wanna a better education. My parents wont let me go to CC simply because they think i might not work hard enough, so will end up with some kind of CSU.

So UCSC has an inferior education? No offense, but you’re not winning yourself any points here. Please do some more research into the school’s academics and understand that it has made great advances in several areas while being honored for said advances.

Many of my CCC professors graduated from UCs and well-known privates. Several of those were teaching concurrently at local CSUs and UCs. Most of them challenged their students with work loads that were on par with work loads. Many of those who say they had easy professors often also sought out those easy professors. GPA was more important to them than learning. Please take the time to update yours and your parents’ knowledge about CCCs.

You get from any school what you put into it. Prestige is not going to simply hand you a “better education.” It is my humble opinion that you do not belong at UCSC if you desire prestige. If you truly want to go to UCSD or UCB, then your best option is a CCC. You will have lower priority from another UC or from a CSU. If you go to a CCC, you can sign a TAG to be guaranteed admission to UCSD.

meh I got into UCSD and UCD but im choosing to got to UCSC. Prestige is pointless and overrated.

Relax dude. I wanna go to those two college just because their engineering is pretty strong, UCSC is not much strong in the engineering areas but others does. thank you for the information about TAG

I was speaking sincerely in response to your statement:

You did say you might change your mind after coming here, but this sort of attitude is not going to help you in the slightest. If you feel like you will be stuck, then you shouldn’t come here. If you feel your education will be hindered, then you shouldn’t come here. I am offering advice both in your best interests based on your statements and those who lost out on a spot to someone who currently believes they would be stuck if they had to remain at UCSC for four years.

I obviously can’t do anything to direct your choice and I wouldn’t want to. That’s your decision. But I do ask that you not have such a horrible attitude. If you come in with a chip on your shoulder, it’s possible you’ll never brush it off and actually enjoy the wonderful opportunities that exist.

I also reiterate that prestige in anything does not mean you will receive a quality education unless you seek out all opportunities available. You have to work to receive a good education. It won’t just be handed to you. Again, I am speaking sincerely.
