Hello,

Currently I attend Syracuse University (gpa 3.6), and i would love transferring to The School of General Studies of Columbia University.

I had couple of questions regarding transferring from a private institution.
Of course, i understand that there are other requirements like GPA, essay, etc.

But i am wondering if it would give a better advantage to be admitted or look better since i am transferring from a private institution.

Also, I've noticed that GS is transfer friendly and the rate for accepting transfer students is pretty high.

The deadline is coming up soon, and i am so hesitant with applying.

Would greatly appreciate your feedback!

I really doubt there is a better advantage in applying from a private school over a public school. If you didn’t have a gap in your educational road, it will be tougher to get in unless you have a compelling story to tell.

Just apply, you have nothing to lose but the application fee and some time.

thank you for your response!

I was researching through GS and it had some rumors about how this institution is only for “older adults” and, “people who came from military because they had to skip education for few years”

So im guessing these rumors are true?

After high school, I did go to a junior college (community college) before attending Syracuse University.

Would you say that I have no chance at all?

I cant really say much as I got accepted for Fall 2012.Its not for older adults, its for non-traditional students who took a break in between their studies.Yes,some are young and some in between.

It seems like you didn’t take a year off,as your route was High School > Community College > Syracuse. In that case, you could apply for Columbia College. Going to a community college is not a break in between your studies

My advise to you,is just to apply and worry not about your chances because at the end of the day,if you didn’t try,you never gonna know the results. Others with experience could chime in and help
