what is the average GPA for transfering into cornell university CALS (in a program like biological sciences)? also, what would be a "competitive" GPA? - i dont think they release average GPA's. A competitive GPA would be at least a 3.5 with all A's in the bio classes if you're applying for a bio spot.

does it look better if you are transfering from a four-year school as opposed to a community college? Doesn't make or break an applicant. There's differences such as a 3.5 from Swarthmore is much more difficult from a 3.5 at a community college, but a high GPA from any college can make any applicant competitive.

is it true that new york state residents get "put to the top of the pile"? Not quite, the state supported schools do admit alot of NYS residents, but i still have yet to figure out if it's becuase NYS says so or the fact that the majority of kids that apply to these schools are NYS residents in the first place so their large acceptance percentage is a reflection of the applicant pool.

did it make a difference if i went to transfer day? (they did take attendance). Yes, they do take attendence and something like this is important for showing your commitment and interest in the school. It will help you in the end.

hey gomestar, i dont know if u remember my situation or not (2.6 HS gpa, horrible SATs, at Ithaca College right now) but do you think that it would be better to apply for fall of my junior or is it ok to apply for spring sophomore year. id like to get out of here as soon as possible but im not sure if its harder to transfer to AEM in the spring. also, lets say i did apply for spring sophomore year and get rejected, can i apply again for fall junior year? will i be at a disadvantage?

you can apply as many times as you want (i think, i cant see why not). It'd really be in your best interest to apply as a junior. It's the only way to hide your high school record. The more stellar grades in college, the better. Also, get an internship or something over the summer ... dont sit on your butt and work part time at the BK Lounge. Show commitment and reason why they should admit you.

i am ny-state residence transfer from a community college with 3.8 gpa and get accept to CALS biology science in spring 06. i didn't go to transfer day (dont even know when it is !). never took SAT. nothing special in application except i graduated from high school in Hong Kong and came to US only 1.5 years.
i think 3.8 gap would be secure.
