I applied to be a math major and just learned that my application was rejected because my current school classifies me as a senior. I have 94 hours — 52 taken at college and 42 from AICE/AP. I’m really only a second year student. Do you think there is any hope of getting this overturned? I have a minor at my current college that wasn’t even considered (and I could make it a double major) plus a considerable number of major credits left to take. I will be there at least three more semesters. (So I’m a “senior,” but not really.) Should I call and talk to them? Feeling pretty devastated right now.
Wanted to add that I called admissions last fall when I feared they would simply see that I had more than 90 credits and they said they “didn’t penalize” for high school test credits. But the credit status is exactly what the letter says.
Contact Admissions, it could be something they can work out.
The actual rejection came from the CLAS. Do you think I should contact them?
Yes contact CLAS. The info is here. https://www.advising.ufl.edu/admissions/transfer-admissions/if-not-admitted/
Thank you. I’m calling them this morning. I am just so, so nervous about it. I can still go back to USF but I’m so unhappy there that this feels like my only shot, and I’m less than two years out of high school. It’s hard to believe that I have too MUCH to transfer. GPA is a 3.84 so I wasn’t as concerned about that as I was the total number of hours, which is why I contacted them last fall. I found that email and it was actually the CLAS Transfer Appeals Committee who had said then that it looked like I was OK. Not sure what changed. I’m hoping it was just a rubber stamp no and when I tell them again about the minor and extra hours needed they’ll re-evaluate. The minor isn’t part of the application at all. Maybe I should go in person?
Called and the secretary said to forward them that email from the fall from the CLAS Transfer Appeals Committee. She also said to contact the undergraduate coordinator in the math department. I did both of those things late Tuesday but haven’t heard anything from either place. Is there really any hope? Should I call or email them again on Monday? Is there any hope? Everyone (outside of UF, of course) has felt that the rejection was simply an auto response to my overall credits and once it’s re-evaluated with all of the info they’ll overturn it, but I’m sick with worry. For example (and one thing I pointed out), I got FOURTEEN out of my 94 credits from two A-level AICE science classes. I’m a math major. I certainly don’t have a use for 14 science credits, but they’re there. Only 4 counted toward the gen ed requirements. The rest are just elective credits. Take those away and I’m not a “senior.” They don’t impact my major or my minor at all. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Any or advice would be so welcome.
