Transfer Student Hoping to get into the University of Southern California with a 3.49-3.52

Hi Forum,
I was wondering what my chances are of getting into USC for the fall semester. I am currently a student at community college and I took 28 units this semester but ended up getting grades that were not really up to par. I got a spring grades request from USC but my grades have dropped a bit since the fall semester. I will most likely end up with either a 3.49 or 3.52 gpa. I have already gotten into Boston University but I really want to get into USC. What do you think my chances are of getting into USC?

You’re competitive but keep in mind that there are plenty of other factors that contribute to admissions decisions, like essays, letters of recommendation, extra-curriculars, number of spaces available in a particular program, etc. Asking for your spring grades is a good sign though.

Thank you so much for replying. I thought that I just ruined my chances of getting into USC by getting that one C this semester considering I know how competitive USC is with admissions.

C’s transfer just like A’s and B’s do. Earning a C is not going to look great if you are seeking merit-based aid, but it is not the end of the world. Need-based aid is computed regardless of grades.

USC’s request for your spring grades is encouraging. If there was an extenuating circumstance (illness, e.g.), you explain that in an email.
