Transfer Student Questions about financial aid

Hello College Confidential,

I’m currently a transfer student here at UC Davis. I just finished my first quarter recently and had a talk with my academic advisor. After talking I’m now considering doing a minor. But this would result in me doing a fifth year. My questions are:

  1. Will financial aid cover the fifth year of school?
  2. Is there a limit to the number of credits that financial aid covers? Because I didn’t use financial aid at all in the three years that I went to community college prior to transferring.

What kind of financial aid are you getting? It is impossible to answer your question without knowing this.

https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/consumer/sap/standards may help you. Beyond that, ask the UCD FA office.

At a UC, likely no. in the past, the UC aid is designed to either be 4 years for incoming frosh, and only 2 years for transfers.

It doesn’t matter that you didn’t use FA during CC.

forget the minor if it would require an extra year. minors don’t really do much anyway. if you have space in your 2 year schedule, you can take a couple of these classes.

Please do NOT make the mistake that we’ve seen here on CC where the student doesn’t complete their major in time (in your case, by June 2021) because they were taking “other classes for a minor or second major) and then suddenly they can’t graduate and can’t get aid to finish.
