Transfer Timing and worth

I am currently a student athlete attending a very small (2000) liberal arts university with full tuition covered. i am currently only paying for room and board and a meal plan. I had a past thread discussing my reasons for transferring and i decided that i had valid reasons for wanting to transfer.
I would want to transfer to a larger liberal arts university in my hometown and hopefully commute. My only issue is money. My tuition scholar ship is academic and athletic. The difference in school’s tuition is about 2000 more to where i would be going. I would be losing about 13000 in athletic scholarship money if I transferred and probably 5000 academically but i would be saving an extra 8000 by commuting. I know i could figure out the costs with loans but would it be more beneficial if i suffered through another year? I know i could do it and make it through another year if i really pulled focus. Should I? and if i do that should i just suck it up and stick it out? I am very unhappy here and i hate my sport but should i just look at this as a job?

Run the numbers very carefully. When you transfer, you won’t have any scholarship money. You will have to cover the costs with whatever it is your family can pay, you can earn yourself, and your student loans ($6,500 sophomore year, $7,500 junior year, $7.500 senior year).

Would it make sense to attend a community college that you can commute to for one year before enrolling at the university in your home town? That could save you some money.

The school i am transferring to has scholarships for transfer. WIth my GPA i would be receiving about 14000 dollars as opposed to the 19 i am earning here in purely academic money. That is where i lose the 5000 academically. I don’t know if thats what you meant but Thank You anyway

If the numbers work, and you believe that the hometown U is a better academic match for you, then there really isn’t any reason to stay where you are.
