Transfer TO a community college

This may be semi long. So here we go. I have been at my school for 11 weeks now. during these 11 weeks I have not made any good friends I have 1 right now. This is due to the fact a lot of people are not out going here. Another thing is I had a roommate issue it turned out very bad and now I try to avoid her and places she may be.Also the school is so small I hate that because its harder to avoid certain people. This is adding on to my school stress which is not helping and is unmotivating me to work. which is a problem! So after that situation I switched to another roommate this roommate I have been with for almost a week now and she is not clean and the room smells so bad I can’t stand it and it just isn’t a place I can live in. Through the whole time I have been at this school I have not had a pleasant experience and must I add my mom wanted to attend here before so I chose it somewhat for that reason as well. So far I hate it here I am unhappy and feel very unsafe and almost anxious and depressed. I just started my second trimester and I have a few days to get a full refund.

My plan is to go back and live at home (i am sick of roommates in dorms the size of a box)
and I would go to my community college because I contacted them and they informed me I can get my scholarship back which is wonderful! The scholarship will pay for everything I will save so much money! Yet my parents think that it is the wrong choice and I will regret it! and I don’t know how to convenience them…
they think i just want to go back home for my boyfriend when clearly it is so much more!
i need help how to convenience them! Please help!

Tough situation. Think carefully: if you had a good roommate/living situation would the college be acceptable to you? If so, then you should make a fuss with housing to get you into a single or into another situation that is not as unpleasant as what you’ve had to experience so far. Assuming you truly hate the college, and not just the roommate situation,I think it probably would make a lot of sense for you to go to community college based on what you said–but you left a lot out. Would going to the community college give you a clear path to get back to a four year college in your major of choice? Are you truly motivated to succeed at the community college, and not sort of “give up” on going to school after one term? Community college can be a great option, but it requires focus and motivation on the part of the student, to keep your eye on the ultimate prize of transferring to a four year school and graduating in your field of choice. Have a calm, rational conversation with your parents, write out all of the points, pros and cons, show that you’ve considered this carefully, propose some ground rules for yourself to reassure them (e.g. state steps you will take to ensure focus on school and not solely on boyfriend, e.g. self-imposed curfews, etc), discuss finances, and then arrive at a decision.

wow that really helped and I am very motivated I am school lover and want to for sure get my degree! I am undecided which is why I think this would be good option to not waste any money! and yeah i think this is a good plan and I agree I have to give steps and explain to them! I do truly hate the school and not just the rooming issue cuz i do believe that is not a good enough excuse. I would for sure transfer to a four year! @rocket88

I did exactly what you did, albeit later than you did. My advice is that if you want to go to a community college, go. It’s an awesome experience, you will probably do much better there than at a four year and you can return to a four year. There will challenge moving back home most likely, and your parents may think you’re just taking the easy way out but this is what you want to do. Perhaps you can finish out the year and then say that that was enough. You tried it, you didn’t like it, you want to find something new.

A lot of people do what you do. It’s fully possible to go to 4>CC>4.

Good luck to you.
