Transfer to USC from NYU

Hi,
I’m currently a sophomore at NYU and have applied to USC DLAS as a Philosophy, Politics, and Law major. My college GPA is a 3.711, and my total credits completed is 36. I am currently taking 16 credits, so I should have 52 by the end of Sophomore year. Do you think, coming from NYU, would better my chances at being admitted? Also I was offered TTP when I applied in high school, as a Freshman, but did not pursue it. I am applying for Fall 2019, Junior year, so would the USC Admissions know I was offered TTP?

USC admissions would know you were offered the TTP but you won’t get the same treatment as a TTP since you did not pursue it. I don’t believe applying from NYU makes any difference. Whether you are applying from a cc or NYU, GPA and fulfilling the GE requirements are most important. Your GPA is at about the average for admitted transfers and would be a toss up on whether you are admitted or not. If you had the TTP, you are almost guaranteed in with the 3.7 GPA. Good luck!

Are you sure USC will remember I was offered TTP?? My sister attends USC, but I chose to attend NYU instead, and didn’t apply last year as a Sophomore. But I’ve applied for this Fall 2019, but I didn’t mention I was offered TTP in my essay or anything @UCBUSCalum

@skkcv I believe they keep your USC ID in their system. The current application USC ID is the same as the one when you applied during high school.

@CADREAMIN who is very knowledgeable on the transfer process can probably confirm the USC ID carrying over from a previous application year as stated above.

Yes, USC IDs are carried over multiple cycles. If you applied in the past, they will know.

Okay yeah you’re right. I just checked my Fin Aid account and it has the same USC ID number as the last time I applied two years ago… I think that’s good then that they’ll know I was offered TTP. Hopefully that could better my chances @UCBUSCalum @s0meUSCkid95

@CADREAMIN if I was offered TTP, but didn’t pursue it, but applied to Transfer the following year, would that still better my chances?

@CADREAMIN Hello

@skkscv This is purely personal opinion rather than having insider knowledge on this particular topic…but I wouldn’t think so. They offered you a way in and you didn’t pursue it. That doesn’t show a never ending love with USC on your part and in admissions, they only need one itty bitty differential from another applicant to put someone in the yes or no pile. You basically told them to blow off once, so I can’t see that as a positive. Sorry, idk, I could be totally wrong. On the other hand, you qualified once, so who knows, maybe that makes you were an extraordinary fit. So you can really look at it either way, might as well see if from the positive approach.

@CADREAMIN I didn’t apply because I got into NYU? Lol this is purely personal opinion, but NYU, from what I see, is the equivalent of USC. Both are prestigious universities. If I had gone to a state school, then of course, I would have applied to USC. After a year of realizing that NYU isn’t for me, that’s why I’ve applied to USC, to tell them that I was wrong. I wrote about that in my application essay, and how USC is truly the school for me, in terms of opportunities and the quintessential college experience. I called the admissions office and they told me they will know that I was offered TTP when they review my application, so I hope it’ll make a difference. I appreciate your input, but I’d rather just wait it out on my own, instead of posting on here any further. Thanks

I mean you’re already at a very good institution. Why transfer?

@freethepuffles I want to transfer because NYU doesn’t fit me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful to have even been admitted into NYU. That was surreal. I want to attend SC because it’s closer to home for me, and my sibling attends SC as well.

@skkscv I put off answering your question and replying to the several DMs (and bumps there) you sent me because I wasn’t sure you would like the answer. But you kept posting same question over and over. I am not ever going to give someone false hope to make them feel better for that moment, only to have big crash later. Just telling it like I see it, which could be totally right or wrong. Only admissions has your package. So take the positive stance and if avoiding posting more is better, certainly do that. Wish you luck!

@CADREAMIN I can take constructive criticism. I’m not a sissy, so please don’t take me as one. Are you even part of USC? To be honest, I’d rather hear from someone who is an Alum, or someone who is affiliated with the university. If you aren’t even part of the university, then you shouldn’t be judging whether you think others may get in or not. That doesn’t make sense whatsoever, nor does it make you a credible source, so if you aren’t affiliated with USC, or let alone attended the university, then I certainly don’t value your input.

Yes to both. You asked me directly several times so I answered. I sincerely hope you get good news.

@CADREAMIN Okay, well thank you for your input, and thanks for your well wishes.
