My son is a film major whom applied to USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. He was not accepted and I am wondering what his chances are of transferring. Would it be better for him to attend SFSU for one or two years, where he was accepted, or to transfer from a community college? Also would he have a better chance of transferring under a different major and then switching, or declaring himself a film major, (which he already did when he first applied). I’m assuming they may keep those records for a while which will show he applied as a film major.
Our D went to CC in 2007 and then transferred to USC, entering 1/2009. When a friend toured USC with a legacy friend in 2008, USC adcoms told the friend he’d have a better chance of being admitted as a transfer from a community college than a 4-year college.
You may wish to double-check with USC as to whether CC students still get preference in transferring and about how to get into cinema. D was accepted in Arts & Science and applied to cinema after starting as a transfer; she was accepted after applying once or twice to cinema.
Thank you, that’s very reassuring! I did read somewhere, either on USC’s website or the denial letter that they take a significant amount of students from CC’s. I will check with USC. Congratulations to your daughter!
As I understand it, Bryan Singer himself applied to USC/SCA, was denied admission, applied again as a transfer student, was admitted to USC - but denied again by SCA… and then finally made it in to SCA on his third try as an internal transfer.
And today, the program he was eventually admitted to is called “The Bryan Singer Division of Cinema and Media Studies”. So… where there is a will, there may be a way…
