Transfer who is not sure what kind of school he should shoot for! (HELP?!)

Hi there! My name's Pat. I currently go to Emerson College. I transferred here this last year from a community college... but there's some issues with my major, so unfortunately I think I'm going to have to transfer out. I really need some advice as to which schools I can get into with my stats/achievements!

If you could tell me whether I'm in range for those three schools... and suggest Theatre Programs that would be good fit for my stats... that would be so, so amazing.

Schools I am considering:
-New York University [TISCH: Drama]
-Boston University [Theatre Arts]
-Ithaca University [Theatre]

Education:
-Emerson College: Fall '10 - . One semester of coursework completed (doing my second now). 3.58 GPA.
-Bristol Community College: Fall '09 - Spring '10. Two semesters of coursework. 3.77 GPA. (twice on Dean's List)
-Joseph Case High School: Fall '05 - Spring '09. High School Diploma. 2.59 GPA. (I know, right?)

SATs:
-Because I'll be heading into my Junior year and I've completed a full year, I do not need to submit my SATs. (which, isn't a bad thing... they're like 1800 total)

Extracurriculars:
-Creator, Producer, & Host of WECB's (Emerson radio station) "How To Succeed in Radio Without Really Trying," a talk/music show about theatre, film, & TV.
-Camera operator of The Emerson Channel.
-Assistant Director of theatre productions such as Blood Brothers ('10), Epic Proportions ('10), Aida ('10), & Caucasian Chalk Circle ('10).
-Director & Designer of a production of the musical The Last Five Years ('10) and a play (which I also wrote) called The Other Side. ('09).
-Actor with 3 different theatre companies, involved in approx. 12 shows in the past couple of years.
-High school activities included: Football team, Basketball team, Newspaper editor, Literary Journal editor, Theatre (obviously!), Yearbook, etc.

Employment/Volunteer:
-Aid to a disabled woman.
-Swansea Recreational Summer Camp [Camp Counselor]
-Sears [Retail - Shoe Department]
-Swansea Public Library [Assistant Librarian]
-Pet Partners [Volunteer
-Animal Advocates [Volunteer]

Essay:
-I'm going to write about overcoming the obstacle of both my parents dying at a young age, and how I'm a stronger and better person today because of it. I'm a very, very good writer, so this should be strong.

Other:
-I plan to submit some sample work I've done (scenes from a couple of plays I wrote, stills from productions I directed, etc.) so they can get a taste for my creativity and passion.

Thank you so much!

A library assistant is not in any way an assistant librarian! You dont have enough education or experience.

What state are you (probably your parents) resident in? do you need finaid? Other than federal stuff?

kayf -

 1. I reside in Massachusetts. I currently live in Boston, MA… attending Emerson College. My perm. address is with my grandmother (both my parents are deceased) is in Swansea, MA.

I do need financial aid. However, At Emerson I get very good financial aid… which is surprising because they’re known to be very stingy. They gave me about 30,000 in grants/scholarships.

kmazza… it’s simply a typo. Library Assistant is what I meant.

BU, Ithaca = good-very good chance.
NYU= won’t count on it.

milanista - thank you so much… that’s the type of thing I wanted! :)

Any other good schools you could see me having a decent shot getting into? Fordham, maybe? If you had any other suggestions, it would be much appreciated!

High, I could be wrong, but I think financial aid for transfers is limited. You might want to think about Purchase College, which is a SUNY, but has reasonable tuition for OOS.

Well, I transfered to Emerson last year… and they gave me good financial aid?

But even so… does Purchase College have a respected name? I don’t know much about it.

It has a large theatre program and is located close to NY. I dont know that many schools with theatre programs, and I would be looking for a finanicial safety if I were you.

I could apply to schools like NYU, BU, and Ithaca… and then see how much aid they give me. If it’s not a lot, I could go to a cheaper school like Purchase. That’s reasonable thinking… right?

Absolutely

NYU is notorious for bad financial aid. BU and Ithaca won’t necessarily meet full need.

If transferring (financially) doesn’t end up working could you study abroad/ as an exchange student somewhere for a year?

I think that would be absolutely amazing… but I wouldn’t know where to start as to where to apply… :-/

bump… sorry to be pushy… I’m just really pressing.

bumpedy bumpedy bump!
