Hi Guys,
I am a senior in high school and I just got rejected from Georgetown and Boston College. I really really want to transfer to one of these schools next year. What are good schools to transfer out of to get into these schools? I really don’t want to go to community college. I heard Johnson and Wales is a good option to transition from because of cheap tuition.
Go to whichever school you are content with staying for the next 4 years if you don’t get into Georgetown and BC next year. You should especially consider fit, cost, and your area of study. It obviously looks better if you get a good GPA from a prestigious school, but people transfer from a variety of different schools. There aren’t specific schools which are good to transfer out of… Just go where you will be successful, which will help your transfer application.
Bingo. Transfers slots are limited and dependent on this year’s yield. A few years ago, for example, CSOM was over-enrolled and took less than a handful of transfer students in the spring. Even students with outstanding applications were shut out since there were no beds available.
I wouldn’t bank on transferring into either of those schools, so you might want to look at other options. Both Georgetown and BC have lower transfer acceptance rates compared to their freshman acceptance rates. To be competitive in those applicant pools you would need over a 3.7 at least to even be considered. For BC specifically, I know from experience that the transfer pools are getting really tough because no one really leaves and they over enroll more and more each year. You might want to look at schools that are good academically but not as competitive for transferring. As I said, I transferred to BC, but if I didn’t get it I was gonna apply to UVA UNC Vandy and a couple others because they are known to have higher transfer acceptance rates and they’re still good schools.
