Transfering from a Cal State to UC

My parents are trying to persuade me to go to a community college rather than a Cal State school because they think I will have a hard time transfering to a UC if I go to a Cal State school. Are they right? What GPA would I need to be able to transfer from a Cal State to a UC school?

I think going from a Cal State to a UC is like going from out of state to a UC. You have way better chance of getting in a UC from CCC.

Yeah, and you'd save your rents some money.

it won't be like going from OOS to a UC but it will be harder than going to a CC. My friend got into UCI, UCD and UCSB from cal poly pomona. its definitely possible but if you want an easier way, go to a CCC (it'll be cheaper too!).

^ What was her GPA and major? Did she have lots of ECs?

he had a 3.5 and no ec's. he was a business major and applied to business/econ at all those schools .. oh yeah he got into USC as well. however, he got rejected by ucla, UCSC (no clue why) and ucsd.

Community colleges receive first priorty for transfer applicantions to the UC, so yes, your parents are right. It may sound strange at first, but why would any four year university help their students transfer out of their school. That's why there are CCs, because after two years, students at CC's have no choice but to transfer, as for 4 year universities, well, the students are already in one already. I know it's a hard decision but if you really want to guarantee yourself going into a UC and graduate from UC, (especially a top tier one like UCLA or Berkeley) go the CC route.

I have tons of friends(and several people from this forum) who have successfully transfered from a CC to their dream UC school. CCs have lots of transfer resources. For my school, a transfer counselour from UCLA comes every month for about 2-3 times helping out the students with questions and etc. UCI and UCSD counselours regularly come too, but UCLA comes to my school the most.

what school do u go to, and i never hear about counselors from uci or ucla comin to my cc to talk. i go to mt sac.

^ Cal State Fullerton, majoring in biology

I go to Glendale Community College.

You can check your school's transfer center, that's where I find out about the UCI and UCLA counselours coming in.

CCC all the way. Cheaper and better chance yes yes yes!!
