Hi, im currently attending St. John's university, and i have an undeclared major. I want to get into their 6 year pharmacy school, and I know this will be difficult because my grades and SAT's were very average in high school.
If i pull out a really good GPA for my first semester, do you think they will let me transfer?

bump bump bump

bump again

I don't know the policy at St John's but going from how other schools work.. only your performance at the university is considered when applying for an internal transfer. The state school I last attended just had a minimum GPA you had to be at to change schools, NYU requires you to fill out an application and statement and your transcript at their school is reviewed.

However Pharmacy programs are generally highly competitive so I wouldn't be surprised if some schools did look at your high school performance as well but the focus will more than likely be on your current school.

thank you, i guess i'm gonna have to pull out that 4.0

You're at SJU and should be discussing your plans with your advisor! As you probably know, they have one of the harder CoP's to get into because they're a 0-6 school and are extremely selective, with an acceptance rate under 10%! However, if you're taking all the required prepharm courses (and doing very well - like 3.5 or better) your best bet is to take the PCAT next year and score high, then apply to pharmacy programs. I would suggest applying to several - SJU takes few transfers but LIU and the other schools like UB that aren't 0-6 programs might have more room. Start researching their prereq's now though as they vary from school to school!

But first, talk to your own advisor and be willing to look at other schools for the last 4 years if PharmD is really what you want! Good luck!

BTW, I heard from another pre-pharm that SJU admissions told him they only accept transfer with a bachelor's degree in pharm. But he wasn't a current SJU student, so maybe they'll have a different policy for you - let us know, k?

Got this info in an email from admissions officer at SJU:

"If you are not admitted to the pharmacy program, you may still
have a chance to enter other programs at St. John's (including others
within the College of Pharmacy & Allied Health). However, there is no
opportunity to transfer into the pharmacy program at a later date."

Looks like they don't take any transfer at this time, but I've heard rumors that they, like many others including ACP, may be going to a 2+4 format next year. So keep your grades way up and your options open! Good Luck!

thank you so much for that , i really appreciate it.
i've realized that it would be too hard to transfer into the pharm program, but i'm still going to try, and even if i dont get in, I might do physician assistance.
