Hey I am transferring to UCB next fall 2017 and I completed community college in year! My major is Environmental economics and policy. Ask me anything! Extra-curricular, transferBridge, housing, etc
Congratulations! Can you share more your information?
Are you CA resident?
Are you transferring from CA CC?
What’s your GPA? and how you prepare your personal statement?
Do you have you choose the specific major when you applying the UCB?
Hey! Thank you! So I am a CA resident and I am transferring from a CA community college. My first semester I took 18 units and received one B in an honors class and I took 4 credits during the summer semester. I followed the IGETC and the assist very strictly and I recommend others to do so. So as of now, I have a 3.86 GPA.
I felt like the insights questions this year were particularly tricky to do since there are no other examples or resources to help. The first question is mandatory for all transfer students and that is: Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university.
So I basically mentioned my interest in environmental sustainability and how I interned with researchers during high school. I also mentioned my aspirations which are to volunteer with PeaceCorps and work in developing countries.
I had a writing advisor on campus proofread and edit my responses. I probably had five drafts and just gave up and submitted them.
If you want to know more about the insights, let me know!
Yes, I had to have a specific major when I applied. However, you are enrolled in a certain college first before officially declaring that major after a semester at Berkeley. So even though you choose a specific major on your application, you don’t necessarily have to stick with it.
Thank you for taking your time to answer my question.
In assist.org, it statese "When applying to Berkeley, students are encouraged to submit their
application as a College of Natural Resources Environmental Economics and Policy
major. I noticed that Environmental Economics and Policy is available both in College of Natural
Resources and in the College of Letters and Science, which college you getting in?
Also, Do you think the major of Environmental Economics and Policy have a greater chance than the Economics?
Does the major I put in the application affect the chance of acceptance rate of the College?
Because I am following the IGETC and the assist of Economics and I just realized that the requirement of Environmental Economics and Policy is basically as same as the Economics. So I am wondering which major I put on my application will give me a better chance to get into UCB. Or, the major doesn’t matter because all the student need to get into College first?
Also, Did you take the Introduction to course of Introduction Environmental Economics and Policy for the major?
I took Environmental Policy at my cc which counts as intro environmental econ and poli and applied for College of Natural Resources. I do personally think applying to Environmental Economics and Policy (EEP) in CNR increases your chances, and yes applying to certain major does affect your chances too.

The link above shows the states of acceptance for each major. Both colleges have an average of 32% acceptance rate for EEP, while L&S has a 20% acceptance rate for just economics.
If you apply to EEPS in CNR and do get accepted, you cannot change to another major outside of the college, such as Economics in L&S. You are, however, welcome to change your major within the CNR. Here is a list of classes required for EEP, look through them and decide if these courses interest you:

If they don’t interest you, then maybe it is a better idea to apply for L&S Economics.
Hey there! How many units did you complete in total before you filled out your UC application? I heard from many people that you need 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) in order to transfer to a UC, but seeing a few people being able to do that in a year instead of two is really motivating.
Also, did you take all of your GE’s and major preparations for your major?
It is required to have at least 60 transferable units in order to transfer. So I had around 36 units just from APs and I completed 38 units at CC. Yeah, I ended up finishing all my GE’s and core courses.
Summer - 4 units
Fall - 18 units
Spring - 16 units ( including 3 units were from intercollegiate tennis)
If it weren’t for my AP credits, I wouldn’t have completed all my requirements and have some spare units in such a short amount of time.
So have you transferred as a Junior?
OR
Are you transferring as a Sophomore?
I’m also trying to transfer to Cal in one year of CC! Apart from maintaining a good GPA and ECs, are there any other things that you think made you stand out as an EEP applicant? I’m debating between Environmental Econ or Political Econ with a minor in EEP. Thanks so much!
CNR is also okay with IGETC in order to fulfill the ESPM breadth requirement.
I’ve looked into doing Society & Environment as my double major and CNR was generous in that!
