Hi, I was just wondering if you're going to be a prospective transfer applicant in the future to top schools (i.e.: Emory, Wustl..)...and you kind of have a poor HS record...would it look better to the adcoms/admissions committee and put you in a better position to transfer to a "low-tier" state school or a Community College (CC)?

Currently atm, I'm debating whether I should attend my local CC (MPLS Tech & CC) or random in-state schools such as "MN state -Mankato", "Bedmiji State" or St.Cloud State" (also if I can afford to go since I'm low income)--which are all of course reputable in their own respectful ways...

So basically my question is: Would I be put in a better position for transfer admissions if I transferred from a CC or "low tier"state school?

I would highly, highly, highly appreciate some responses. Thanks! :)

TransferLady, Thank you sooo much for answering my question. So far I really, really like MN State-Mankato…which is kinda like a step below the state flagship, UM-Twin Cities…I just hope I can get in…after would be St.Cloud state which is OKAY for me and theothers i dont like at all My local CC- Minneapolis Tech & CC seems nice but I don’t, won’t and stay home and commute for personal reasons and i wont be able to study while trying to balance college stuff :/

I will try to go to the best school (hopefully MN State)i can from my list and earn the best grades I can while being active on campus joining organizations & clubs that cater to my interests and maybe apply for jobs/internships later on :)

There are more scholarships for community college transfers than there are for transfers from other four year schools. ([Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society](http://scholarships.ptk.org/)) I also think transferring from a community college can give a “built in” reason for why one wants to transfer.

college_ruled, thank you for pointing out that suggestion…I know that I’ll have a much easier time writing my essay and having an easy answer for why to transfer out…but I really want to transfer after 1 yr…if possible which would be easier vs. from a CC b/c then I can prove to colleges that I can handle the coursework AND since CC’s dont offer housing/dorms it’s a very, very bad idea for me to stay home (not because i dont want to stay at home but bc of my my family)…
