Transferring from Boston Uni to a more generous school

I am an international student that is in search for financial aid/generous scholarships. What are my chances of transferring to generous schools from BU?
And what schools are generous to both international and transfer?

I know that Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst and MIT are need-blind and meet full need.

But what are some schools that are need-blind but do not meet full need? (again for international)
Or, what schools will most likely offer me a financial aid package?

GPA 3.5-3.6, research experience, double major in natural science and humanities, etc…

As you already know, your ability to pay will be a factor in the admissions process.

I think many international students have to look at schools where they are going to stay and get a degree because schools have policies in place where they do not provide financial aid to international transfer students.

You chances are pretty close to nil as transferring to a school with generous need based aid asan international student.

Your chances of getting accepted as a transfer student to the schools in your post are VERY low. Princeton only recently started admitting transfer students, and the number is low.

How much money do you need in aid per year? What can your family actually pay?

I do not really expect to get into those. Like I said, I need suggestions: what schools will most likely offer me acceptance and generous financial aid?

I need full cost of attendance. My family can contribute very little ($5-15k).

Schools don’t have to be need-blind, since only 5 top colleges are.

@fer79k

Schools do not need to be need blind to international students. And they also don’t need to award full need to transfer students.

How are you paying for this year? BU costs nearly $70,000 a year. Their highest merit award is full tuition.

If you got sufficient need based aid to continue at BU, why are you looking to transfer?

Have you considered transferring to a college in your home country? Very likely that would be more affordable.

Here’s the list of colleges with the most generous FA to international students:

Oh sorry that’s a language issue. I meant, for suggestions, I don’t look only for need-blind. haha, that’s what I meant

I am not. I am on a leave of absence. And it was my back up school, so I missed the deadline to apply for the scholarship.
I tried looking for loans, but I do not have an US co-signer.

Thanks for the list!
I cannot remember why, but I excluded Wellesley & Wesleyan from the list. Probably because they do not offer assistance to international transfers.
Will look at Skidmore, Williams and Trinity.

You are on leave of absence? Does this mean you completed a year at BU?

Yeah, I completed a year at BU and took a leave of absence.

Also, sorry that it’s completely unrelated, but I love the cat on your profile picture! So cute

If you are a woman, some of the women’s colleges do meet full need for transfers.

Oh really, do you know which ones? Also, does it apply to international?

I do NOT know whether women international transfer students get full need met…but check Smith College, and Mt. Holyoke.

Check Bryn Mawr too.

  • I am an international sophomore at Boston Uni.
  • I apply for financial aid.
  • GPA 3.5-3.6
  • double major in natural science + humanities
  • research experience (related to humanities)
  • work experience (related to humanities)
  1. Should I apply to the following schools? I desperately need financial aid.

Harvard, Yale, Amherst, Tufts, Case Western, Clark University, University of Rochester, Colgate, Tulane?

  1. What schools should I apply to?

Schools not only need to be willing to meet your financial need, but also should indicate they are generally transfer friendly. By checking respective Common Data Sets you can see how transfer acceptance rates compare to those for first-year applicants.

Look into URochester, Mt. Holyoke, Hamilton.

No, No, No, No. (A 3.5/3.6 will not be competitive.)

If you need significant aid to attend college…your best bet is to apply to colleges in YOUR home country.

If you are on a LOA, are you out of the US now? Your student visa is tied to your status as attending BU?
