Transferring from Community College to Whitman?

Does anyone have experience with transferring from a community college to Whitman, or know someone that does? I'm starting at a community college next semester after I get my GED (left high school last year for health reasons). I know that Whitman is selective and incredibly rigorous academically but I'm very passionate about going there. I've scored very high on the English GED test and received the highest honors on it, and still have to take Social Studies, Math, and Science.

Do you have advice about transferring? Is it even possible? How difficult is Whitman really? What SAT score should I look to get before applying?

Thank you!

I don’t know anything specific about transferring from CC to Whitman, but if you are truly passionate about going there, I’m sure you have a great chance. My younger D goes there now and loves it. She works very hard, but she takes some tough classes. If you don’t mind working hard, you would probably enjoy it as she does.

My older D went to CC for three years and just transferred to a four year school. She had good, but not stellar grades in CC and about 1900 on the SAT. She got into almost every school she applied to (she did not apply to Whitman but was accepted at places like U Puget Sound and Willamette). I would bet that if you get your general ed credits at a CC and have excellent grades and near or over a 2000 on the SAT, you would have a great chance of getting into Whitman as a transfer.

Good luck on your dreams.
