Transferring from Johns Hopkins to Georgetown, Dartmouth, Columbia HYP? Advice?

How are transfer applicants reviewed?--holistically? number-heavy?
Do I have a chance? I know this is a weird thread being that I just got accepted into Hopkins....but is my HS profile strong enough for transfer admission to the above schools? At Hopkins, I plan to major in international studies...and I hope to maintain a 3.7 gpa in that major.

Why are you planning on transferring before you have even arrived at Hopkins? If you did not want to attend then you probably should not have applied ED. But I don’t want to lecture you, so I will get to answering your question. Georgetown will be the most realistic as its admissions rate is the highest. Dartmouth and Columbia will be harder as their acceptance rates are lower. And Harvard/Yale will be close to impossible, and Princeton does not accept transfers. I suggest adding Penn to your list, as its transfer rate is around 16%. You should also consider some top publics UVA/UNC. My best advice for you is to go into Hopkins with the best mindset possible; make friends, get involved, and have fun. If you do not like it, that is when you plan on transferring. Good luck

If you already know you want to transfer out, why don’t you just not go to Hopkins?

If your goal is “transfer up” to HYP, than you should go to your local state school or CC and try to transfer. If you’re looking for a contingency in the case that you don’t like JH, than you shouldn’t worry about transfer competitiveness.

It’s not about transferring “up”.
I chose Hopkins be/c, for my major, it’s number 1.
I just hope I fit in well

The IR program at Hopkins is matched only by the likes of Gtown and Harvard. I recommend you stick it out in Baltimore. If not, though, I’m sure you’ll find solace in the fact that a Hopkins freshman transferred to Harvard last year.

eeekkk  nice to know lol.
well idk, im going to just try my best at hopkins and see if i like it.
howver, i am a person that likes to plan ahead…if I do end up transferring, I want to know everything about it now.

You shouldn’t come into JH with the mindset of ‘it might not work out and i should transfer’.
Come in with the mindset that it WILL work and if it doesn’t at first, try to get involved a little bit better.

The best transfer applicants are usually those who did well and got involved in their current school.
