I originally applied to Boston College and Notre Dame thinking ND was harder to get into ... but it looks like the opposite was true ... I just got accpeted to ND and deferred from BC ...

Since applying, I visited both schools and really prefer BC. I am a liberal Catholic and I just cannot see myself happy in South Bend, Indiana for 4 years ....

So far I have only applied to one other school (state school, shoe in), but really want to go to BC ...

Assuming I don't get in into BC in April, WHAT SHOULD I DO?? Transfer from Missou or Notre Dame?? Or apply somewhere else?? or what .... ??!!

Hey thanks for your $0.02, but like I said for me BC is the better school, regardless of rankings. I am a liberal Catholic who wants a more heterogeneous student body and a more culturally cosmopolitan setting. Notre Dame was initially my first choice but after visiting it I was overwhelmed by the homogeneous and conservative student body. Although I'm straight, many of my friends are gay and I got a hugely different vibe about the lgbt climate at ND compared with BC. Again, as a liberal Catholic, I really think there is no better place for me than BC ... so I'm going to try to impress upon them how much I want to be there in the next few months ... and I'll throw together a few other applications just in case ...

Both bc and notre dame have largely conservative catholic homogenous populations. Yes BC is near a city and all, but the student bodies are quite equal. Boston college, although in very liberal boston, is not all that liberal. Your not really going to get all that liberal of an atmosphere at a catholic college. If you want liberal tier 1 colleges on the footing of nd and bc...look at tufts, brandeise (sp?), and nyu. You'll have the great city while keeping the liberal atmosphere. I've been to both bc and nd and besides the surrounding city south bend v boston, they are pretty much the same.

That was not my experience at all. I visited both schools and found them to be very, very different. Specifically, I met a few great women's theology majors and attended a Church in the 21st Century lecture --- these are exactly the kinds of things I am looking to get involved with in college and I don't think would be offerend at a non-Catholic school ... so basically I'm pretty much BC or bust .

I think BC is perfect for a liberal catholic. John Kerry went to law school there, and every time I've spoken with an admissions rep, they've mentioned that fact (seriously, 3 different reps have told me that) I think they're pretty proud of the liberal Catholic repuatation. I have some friends there that are really cosmopolitan and into a diverse population that go there, and they all love it. Go for it at BC, it will def. help that you're already in that Catholic system of Georgetown, ND and BC. I'm applying too for fall 06, good luck....
