Transferring into history?

Okay, I have a two-fold problem. One, I am currently a film major looking to change to history. I will be a sophomore this fall, so I'm not worried about having to re-take too many courses because most of them were all requirements, and no matter what the major or college, you need them anyway.

That said, I also want to transfer to a new school for the spring semester. I'm going to play catch-up this fall to make sure I have a good hand on becoming a history major, and then hopefully have credits that will transfer well. My problem is that I failed one class last semester (eek, I know). I am a good student and get mostly 3.5-4.0's in all my classes, but this one gave me a lot of trouble and even with a tutor I couldn't pass. Anyways, will this be a major reason for not being considered by other schools or is there any way to make it known in my application that I'm working to make it up and just had a hard time? I realize admissions departments arn't all that sympathetic, so does anyone have any advice as to making this better? Thank you, any kind of help is appreciated. Is my ridiculous film-to-history, hopeful-transfer dream dead?
