Hi!
I am thinking of transferring into Macalester as a mid-year sophomore. I'm from the east coast and looking for something different. Does anyone know anything about the community and global health major at Mcalester? Also, If I did end up getting accepted and attending, would I have trouble joining in mid year and fitting in since its such a small school? Thanks :)!!

At Macalester, Community and Global Health is a Concentration. It is interdisciplinary, so the courses you’d take would be from several different departments. Students pursuing the concentration also choose a major. Some choose a science major, while others, who are interested in policy or specific issues, choose non-science majors such as sociology or political science. It is a very popular concentration and gets a lot of support from the school. This year’s International Roundtable theme is on Global Health.
It isn’t uncommon for Macalester students to double major or have a major with two concentrations - so it is doable.

Living in a dorm helps create instant connections, and I think Macalester is a fairly friendly place. As long as you are active, you shouldn’t have difficulty meeting people.
