Yes, 21% is still a lot of people…and I have seen the way that they worked to get those Firsts. @MYOS1634 is right: it takes a special kind of obsession. From your description of yourself, when you put your mind to it, you can achieve quite a lot, and you could be one of those who get a First. I wouldn’t be negative about that at all.
But you asked what we thought of your plan- to go to Oxford, get a first in prelims while becoming a varsity athlete, then after 2 years of Oxford transfer to HYS and graduate 2 years later and head off to fame and fortune on Wall Street, so I gave you my views, based on what I know about Oxford and getting into IB.
However, it really doesn’t matter what any of us think of your plan: you will go to one of your colleges - whether Oxford, LSE or one of the others you got into (I think you listed them as Imperial, UCL, McGill, UToronto and UWO on your thread under your whenwillbill user name). Once there you will either love it and decide that you want to stay, or you will try to transfer and it will happen or it won’t.
OP, I am having a hard time believing you are for real. So you have shown yourself to be extremely bright and articulate in order to gain admission to PPE at Oxford university, which is one of the hardest subjects to get into (which college, by the way?) and you are seriously wondering whether you need to transfer to the US because a PPE degree from Oxford might not be prestigious enough to get you the job you want in the US? Did you fly to the UK for an interview? Did you get an unconditional offer? Did you ever mention getting in to Oxford to anyone who cares the least bit about higher education? Are you aware that it is the one university in the world that enjoys a name recognition equal to Harvard and MIT? You will find tons of opportunities to gain contacts and experience, whether in the UK or in the US during the summer, meet loads of Americans either doing undergrad exchanges or reading for graduate degrees and you will have no trouble landing a job in the US afterwards, in as a prestigious a field or as prestigious an employer as you wish. What on earth is keeping you from spending those three years, then use the time and money saved to gain a postgrad degree from a prestigious uni in the US, if you so desire - and where Oxford grads certainly have a lot less trouble getting in then oxford students getting transfers?
Go to oxford, enjoy yourself, do as well as you can and then go places!
So, that s an unconditional acceptance to Trinity then? Congratulations! Just go in with an open mind, work hard and enjoy yourself. For a student who did so well studying independently and taking final exams, much better than they did with class work, Oxford.is just perfect. That’s what they saw in you and that’s what will make you successful there. Say hello to Broad Street for me, my absolute favorite street in the world!
