Transferring out of USAFA chances

I’m about to be a junior at USAFA and will make the commitment in a little over a week, so I need to decide if I want to leave before then. I just feel like I should be focusing more on academics and less on some of the military aspects, which they have been increasing as a use of time recently. I have no problem with the military lifestyle, but I have no passion for it and could definitely live without it.

I’m a Computer Science major with a 3.8 GPA and have gotten multiple leadership positions, some related to my major and some not. So my question is, what are my chances of transferring to somewhere like MIT, CMU, Berkeley, Vanderbilt, etc? Do my high school grades/scores matter?

I also understand I wouldn’t be able to transfer until Spring 2019 or Fall 2019. Financial aid/scholarships isn’t a major consideration. Any help is appreciated.

The schools you mention are very hard to transfer to, particularly as a rising senior. The decision you have to make is a very personal one and I don’t think anyone on this forum could advise you very effectively. All I can say is that you probably should be fully convinced that you want to take the military path as it is a substantial commitment.

Good Luck!
