Transferring to a Boarding School Junior Year

I go to a day school, which competes in the ISL league for some sports and is academically comparable to schools like Milton or Portsmouth Abbey. I would like to switch to a boarding school junior year (class of 2015). So far, the schools I want to apply to are Choate, Middlesex, Exeter, and Deerfield. I have a 3.4 (all honors, school doesn't weight) and play two varsity sports.

How competitive is admission for junior year?

there are less applicants and less spots… so basically the same (almost) The only thing is that they are trying to ‘finalize’ their graduating class, so they are now looking for specific types of students to fill in the gaps. That’s what they say here on the board, but I do not know what Admissions officers say specifically

Would you consider repeating tenth grade? Your chances would be higher because there are more open spots.

I agree with vanillacream, many guys at my boarding school often opt to repeat their sophomore year. The only problem with this (aside from financially) can be that you won’t be eligible to fully compete in a sport in your league your senior year depending on your age and league.

I’m pretty sure the ISL does not have a four year eligibility rule.
I don’t think I could financially. Income is $200>, which is too much for financial aid, but I don’t think my parents would be happy dishing out an extra $50k

Good luck getting in. I applied to SPS for my junior year and got waitlisted with a 4.0, and a strong pull for their ballet program

I’m in a pretty similar situation; want to go to andover, exeter or deerfield for junior year and pretty certain I won’t get FA (high income international) but three years of tuition will be a huage amount for my parents to pay, especially as I have three brothers.
The chances seem pretty poor, so I’m not sure if I will apply.
