Hi I am thinking of applying to private school in the US for 11th grade. I have a 3.8 gpa and have multiple leadership positions within my school (which is a top public school) as well as awards on the national level. I was wondering what my chances are of being accepted to peddie, Blair, lawrenceville as a junior.
These schools take a limited number of 11th grade students every year. They will be assessing your ability to "hit the ground running " because junior year is typically a tough one and one that is critical to college apps. From the little you have provided, it would seem like you can do that.
You will also need to make a good case for why you want to leave your current school and make this change now.
If you are a foreign student (which I am guessing you are), your chances may be affected by how many other students from your country are already at the school. With that said, I recall that when my child was at George School, there seemed to be a number of spots for foreign students entering in 11th. (Not sure if these were part of formal programs or students as applying on their own.)
If you need FA, that may impact your chances as well.
I do not need FA, will this increase my chances?
It almost always is easier if you don’t need FA.
Have you considered a repeat of 10th grade? Along with not needing financial aid, that could also boost your chances. The few students I have known to transfer tend to repeat their last public school year. Plus these schools are an amazing experience, so an “extra” year is something to think about.
Consider United World Colleges (UWC). It is specifically-designed for the last two years of high school (junior/senior year or senior + a Post grad year). There are campuses all over the world and the program attracts the best and brightest from each participating country. You apply through your own national committee.
