Transferring to Stanford or other top tier school? Chances?

Hello, I'm considering transferring to Stanford for 2012+, I was there over the Summer and really enjoyed the creative atmosphere. I know they rarely accept transfers (1% I believe?), but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm currently attending University of Washington.

I had a 2.8GPA~ in Highschool, and currently a 3.2.

I've taken SAT's twice, the first time I scored 1,660, the second time I scored 2,290.

SAT II:
Math IIC: 770
Chem: 750
Literature: 760

I was not a stellar student in highschool, I took the bare minimum classes because I considered the majority of our curriculum boring.

Anyways, a little bit about myself.. I've been programming for nearly 12 years (Since the age of 7) and have a very strong understanding of theoretical/applied CS, systems, etc.

My first job (And still current) was as a Senior Backend Engineer for a major SaaS (Software as a Service) company in Washington. I was offered the job & started prior to entering college.

I've been offered numerous internships over the summer by companies located in California.

At the age of 16 I started my first legitimate company that dealt with helping automotive performance shops around the US sell their excess inventory. It was successful, but I was forced to abandon it after 8 months of running due to my parents believing it was affecting my school work. It grossed 4 figures while it was active.

I built a full scale global networking website (A different type of social networking) called The SocialCork my Senior year in Highschool. Welcome To The SocialCork The site has a few thousand members (probably more now, it's been a while since I checked the member count) and is active, it is currently in the process of being sold to a private party.

I created a media search engine while I was down at Stanford. It is fairly popular, Cabloo

Prior to Facebook's launch of it's supported video chat, I created a 3rd party website called VuniA that allowed for group chat between you and any number of Facebook friends. The site supported group chat, and non-Facebook video chat. When Facebook launched their video chat, the site pretty much lost traction, so it's no longer online.

There's more, but I figured I'd leave the calculation of possibility of transfer relative to the items listed above.

I wasn't a great student in highschool, I did my own thing mostly during those years as you can see above.

Anyways, what are my chances?

Oh, sorry - make that 5 figures for the gross. Sorry, I’m tired. It’s 5am… lol

Nothing? No chances over a 8 hour period?

I’m gonna be really honest with you, your EC’s are really good, and you seem to have the SAT score. However, you’re GPA is really killing you. Also are you a Sophomore or Junior transfer? Do you need financial aid? Although, Stanford really looks for the creative types, and I think you definitely have the personality of a Cardinal.

I’d be a sophomore transfer. I would need financial aid.

Yeah, I really focused on my projects and outside of school activities during Highschool, college I’ve been a little more attentive, but none of my classes interest me enough to maintain complete focus. It’s the lack of focus that’s obviously been detrimental to my gpa.

I see that all these EC’s might be spreading you thin. The problem I could see is the admission counselors at Stanford asking themselves: " How is this kid gonna do academically at Stanford while running his own company."

Wow would almost seem like a shoe-in with a 4.0 gpa. You have a poor chance with your GPA, but good luck!

Yeah, I should have been more attentive in school… I’m just hoping my ec’s offset my gpa.

Additional input would assist me in coming to a decision for attempting to transfer or not.

Well…it never hurts to try. You need to face the statistics (very rarely accept transfers) and apply anyway but don’t let it get you down if you don’t get in.
