Transferring to Tech

I'm a senior looking to transfer to Tech. My options right now are Georgia State University and Gainesville State College. I know that I have to take all of the required Calculus and Physics etc. for my intended major (Mech. Engineering) before I go to Tech, but I'm at a loss of picking which college to go to.

My parents want me to go to GSU, but I'm confused why. Do they have all of the Calc/Physics/CS classes I need to be able to transfer? As in are they credible for hours? I know Gainesville State College is listed under the RETP program, so I know they have all of the classes I need. I'm leaning towards Gainesville because I don't think GA State's classes, such as Calc/Physics are rigorous enough to be considered for Tech. Which college is better for me?

An even bigger question is can I transfer into GA Tech in ONE year instead of two? I know of the minimum GPA req. & the 30 minimum hours needed, but I'm not sure if you need to stay at a college for two years to have that rule accepted. Transferring to tech in one year is my biggest priority

Any class recommendation to prepare for tech in one year is welcome, I'm in AP Calc AB and AP Chem, along with other AP classes (all with A's without 10 points..), so rigorous coursework shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I went to Ga State then transferred to Tech. What I can tell you is both schools have the classes that will transfer. I am not sure if you go to a school with the RETP program that you can transfer over in one year but I am not sure. Go to the schools and see which one you like. Ga State is a concentrate jungle while Gainesville State is more spaced out.

30 credits in one year is the norm, so yes you can transfer in one year (Just make sure you take 15 credits a semester). Sorry I can’t help on the other stuff.

If a person wanted to transfer to Tech via the RETP program, that person would spend 2 years at Gainesville State before transferring.

In my mind, the biggest concern would be what happens if you can’t transfer into Tech. A Georgia State degree is more valuable than a Gainesville State degree. Also consider that if you make friends at Georgia State then transfer to Tech, you’re just down the street from your friends. The same wouldn’t be the case at Gainesville State.

If I kept my GPA up & finish 30 hours of courses, what would keep me from being able to transfer? I plan on taking summer courses, so hours isn’t much of an issue.

Does the university you transfer from matter? Say for instance, there are two students who are identical down to the thousandth decimal point regarding GPA, but one is from GSU and the other is from Gainesville. Would they pick the student from GSU just because it’s a better school?

I just got accepted to GT as a transfer from a community college in VA, so I dont think where you come matters as much as what courses you took and what your GPA is.
