Hello i am a student at solano community college and i am wondering what are my chances of getting into UC Davis in my current situation
Currently my gpa sits at around a 2.0 if you only count my scince and math classes that ive taken and 2.5 if you count my english and other transfers. i have plenty more classes to raise my gpa well beyond a 3.0 if i manage to get all a’s and if i do what are my chances of qualifing for their tag program or actually transfering. If im not mistaken their program said that in order to qualify i have to of gotten a b- or better in all my science and math requirements but as i stand i have gotten a c in bio 01, c in chem 1, and a c in calc 1.
just a little backstory to explain my situation I am very poor and have to work alot in order to help my parents pay the bills and so i didnt really have the time i wanted to always study for tests and hw this caused alot of stress and i fell into a bit of a depression not really caring about the grades i got in my first year. I have talked with my parents however and plan to quite my job and soley focus on school and i know that doing so i can get a least an a or b in every class from here on out. sorry just felt i needed to mention this.
What is your intended major? Is it possible to repeat the courses in which you received a C? California CC’s offer significant financial aid to low in come students so did you fill out the FASFA? Do you qualify for the Cal grant/Pell Grant etc…?
Here is a link for transfer GPA’s by major for each UC campus to give you an idea of your chances and what to aim for in terms of GPA: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
A GPA below 3.0 will be difficult so look through the link and consider some other UC’s as alternatives.
sorry i thought i mentioned it but i plan on majoring in biology and i dont mind retaking those classesand staying another year or so if it means it increases my chances of getting in and really my only options for college are uc davis and sac state since they are local and i cant offered to live in dorms in another college.
Biology is one of the selective majors at UCD, so it will be extremely tough admit so definitely TAG. For 2015, the minimum transfer GPA of admitted applicants was 3.26 at UCD.

Sac State should be within reach. If money is an issue, I would not spend another year at a CCC but try to transfer to Sac State and complete your degree. What are your plans as a Biology Major?
I really dont know exactly what im going to be doing on the long term but i love biology and i plan to start off working for genentic or another biomanufactering company. I orginally planned to go to medical school and become a pediatrician but after looking at the price and risk of medical school i really couldnt do it.However i would love to work as a clinical research scientist but know that will requre at least a master or phd but thats years from now and a litttle far fetched right now. basically i dont have a paticular job that im striving for but i after getting my bilogy degree i plan to look for jobs as a lab technician somewhere or work for a biomanufacturing company.
If you plan to work right out of college, you do not need to go to UCD for undergrad. I would get your Biology degree and look at the CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) Program which requires a 1 year internship and then sitting for your California CLS license. This will give you a chance at a good working salary so you can pursue Grad school. If you are lucky and get a CLS position in a research hospital, this may be a good stepping stone to working as a Research Scientist.
okay so you think that i should get my degree at sac state? do they have a cls program? Also before you mentioned that i shouldnt stay another year at solano if money is an isssue you said to transfer right away but i practically go to solano for free right now and im manly saving up for tuition when i transfer so i have managed o save up 10k working almost full time… im also 18 years old so i dont mind staying in solano for 2 more years if neccessay to tranfer for my biology degree. im a little off track since im getting a certifiacte in biotech by taking 4 classes that arnt really transferrable but hoping to get a good job with that certificate.
I misunderstood since it sounded like you were working to afford attending the CCC and that is why I asked the FA question. Sac state does not have a CLS program but UCD does so then it wpuld make sense to try and transfer to UCD. Since you did not post this info in your original post, I was trying to give you advice based on the info given.
You need a 3.2 to TAG which seems not possible if you stand at a 2.5 now unless you are able to do academic renewal on some of your liwer grade courses.
Apply to both and see what happens is my advice.
Forgive my typos since I was typing on my phone.
