Transferring to UofM

I'm a Michigan resident but I'm currently in a program where I go to college and high school at the same time. Technically I'm a junior in high school but next semester I'll be a full time college student. My high school GPA was 2.9 and it just wasn't a good fit for me. I have the chance to earn up to 60 college credits at the school I'm going to. If I get into UofM I plan on majoring in Anthropology and minoring in South Asian Languages. I guess my question is what classes should I take so my transcript stands out? What can I do to make myself seem like a strong student? Thanks

Well, my HS gpa was 2.8 and I was admitted as a transfer recently so it can be done! I would suggest knocking out your gen ed. requirements first. Math to at least college algebra, 2 sems of English, 1 sem history…etc your counselor at your school should be able to tell you which classes will fulfill general ed. requirements and transfer.

In addition, take a couple of electives that go along with your interest. The main thing is you have to excel in all classes and be a well balanced candidate. Show leadership by organizing or otherwise leading some volunteer events if possible. Be involved in social and community groups, and start building some relationships with your professors. You’ll need their strong recommendation letter/s before you know it.

Regardless of religious affiliation, some sort of mission trip or other work abroad will show enhanced life experience that may help you stand out. I know it’s a lot to think about but if you want it bad enough, and can manage good grades, you’ll make it happen. Good luck!
