I’m a freshman at Oklahoma City, but I’m considering transferring to University of Arkansas at semester for several reasons:

the religious deparment here rubs me the wrong way. As a christian, it is harder at a small university because you have less people to draw strength and encouragement from.

I feel like I’m missing out on the “college experience”. At such a small university, we don’t a lot of diverse activities going on. I’m not one of those “party-every-night” kind of people, because I could get that here. But I miss marching bands, football, large intramurals, different kinds of food, microwaves (we can’t have them in our rooms)

the location: we are smack dab in the middle of the ghetto. how cool is that? it’s not. It’s scary enough walking around campus at night, let alone walking to sonic. The scenery isn’t all that great.

Am I being superficial? Has anyone else out there experienced a transfer for similar reasons? Any replies would be appreciated.

Are you talking about Oklahoma City College? Or what?

I love Oklahoma with all my heart.

However...

The University of Arkansas would love you very much, I am sure. I live mighty close to Arkansas and go to Church there.

What is your major and all of that good stuff?

peaceout

Yeah, Oklahoma City University (OCU)

My major is Entertainment Business. That's another thing. I love my major, but I really don't like the college (mostly my personal preference).

I have been praying, and multiple people are praying for me, because this is such a hard descision. I think I would rather go to Arkansas, but all this hesitation is from leaving my major and all the connections I've made here.

^

This is just my opinion.

Please do not rule out Tennessee with Entertainment Business.

This site, for whatever reason, is more of a West Coast orientated site. Most especially the transfer student area of this site. That is almost all Community College kids from the West Coast.

But, people forget that a lot of Entertainment industries are also in Nashville as well as where I live in Memphis. I mean, not to the same degree as the West Coast, but still!

Arkansas is very nice. It is not called the Natural State for nothing. I am sure you could do well there and maybe make contacts in Memphis.

Good luck. And, I do not blame you. If you honestly, from the bottom of your whole heart, do not feel nice and safe in Oklahoma, then move! The heck with it. You can still go back and visit.

TRANSFER

This is an easy call. You don't like the religious-related atmosphere, you miss the attractions a big-time college has, you dislike the location. So leave!!

Lots of times people make a decision, then a little down the road they realize it isn't right. They now have a choice. They can stew and do nothing, or they can make a change. I'm for making a change. You don't want to be writing the same thing next year, "gee I wish I had switched", or be sitting around with some friends 10 years from now saying "I don't know why I stuck it out at OCU".

Your 1st step ought to be a review of how you ended up there, anyway. What do you know now you didn't know then? What are you going to do different in this college search so that you don't end up with another school that isn't a good fit?

I want to close with some advice that might be unexpected. Go talk to a counselor at OCU about transferring. Go over what you want in college and listen to their advice. Most people who work in college counseling are there because they genuinely want to help kids, and that means help them even if it involves transferring out. They may be able to suggest alternatives you haven't considered, as well as give you practical advice on what to do this year so you're a strong candidate for U of A (or wherever).
