"What have you done with the time off from high school? Please list in chronological order"...or, "if you've received any awards that are meaningful to you, please list them"...are these our essays? I've looked and cannot find anything else that appears to be essay-like. There are no guidelines or anything, so are we to write six essays and make them as long or short as we like? I like the first-year essays: "what is your favorite word?" or "what kind of diversity will you bring to UVa"? Ugh.

last year, there were more "logical" essays weren't there? like what is ur best day and such? anyways, i think this year essays are easy, but it would be pretty hard to explain why i am leaving my school

why would it be hard to explain that you want to leave VT to go to UVA, crichessill? Seems fairly self-evident to me.

well i definitely like vt's campus better and it will be fairly hard to explain that uva engineering appeals me more than vt's

Just say that you're unhappy with VT and would like to transfer to a better school. If you've got great grades, you'll reasonably be able to say that you're not being challenged and that you'd like more talented peers.

I thought the same thing when I looked at the application today! I keep going back thinking I had missed something... Since the ones from last year were actual essay questions. However, it looks like that is all there is. I would actually like to have a personal statement at least, because it doesn't seem like admissions can really get to know much from the ones asked.

Yeah, no kidding, it feels like I'm filling out a job application. Very disconnected questions with no intention to get to know the applicant. Pretty disappointing, I think, and I hope there is a good reason for it.
