Transfers

Will transferring to JHU leave me with less opportunities than someone who starts there freshman year?

Also, will my performance in and the caliber of the institution affect my transfer decision? Or will JHU hold my high school transcript, which wasn't to hot, against me?

Anyone? I would also like to know about transferring into JHU. My HS CPA was not great but I've improved. What do you think the min GPA needed would be?
thanks

If you go on this site Hopkins Forums -> Transfer Applicant Discussion Thread many of the questions/concerns that you have (along with those of other transfers) are answered by the admissions committee.

I'm a Hopkins transfer and I'd like to answer these questions in more detail but I'm currently in the middle of studying for a midterm...

I'll write back more tomorrow, but to quickly answer some of your questions, no, as a transfer, for the most part, you will have the same amount of opportunities as freshmen, with the exception of the S/U grading the first semester and maybe housing limitations if you come in as a junior, you might have to live off campus.

In terms of the HS record, Hopkins uses a holistic approach toward application review, so while it is of importance, I believe the Admissions Panel will take everything you submit into perspective, your college grades, SAT scores, (if you submit them), your essays, extracurriculars, etc... Furthermore, if you come in as a junior for instance, I believe your HS record will be of less importance, as you have had more time to prove yourself, with hopefully, better grades and more of a consistent academic performance.

While the instititution you are transferring from might hold some importance, I'm going to say that your academic performance at your current university, along with your resume and what exciting things you may have accomplished, will most likely hold more weight.

I'll ramble more tomorrow, too much to do tonight... :)

thanks, good luck on that midterm.

Thanks...

And to answer your question, I believe the minimum college GPA for transfers is 3.0, and they don't list a minimum HS GPA, so take that as you wish. :)
