Transgender-friendly campus

HeavenWood,
Not every person plans to be in corporations.
One of my trans friends is a college prof who got tenure despite transitioning before she went up for tenure.
Another trans acquaintance owns her own business in a field in which creativity and talent, not sexual orientation, is considered important.

Even when it comes to corporations, if a person is really good at what they do and can help the corporation increase profits, their employers don't care what the person's gender is.

I don't mean to be pessimistic. I've just seen too many lives ruined over the stupidest things. I sincerely wish you luck, Spark.

Thanks for your post... I am still undecided about what I want to do.. I will keep your advice in mind

The only advice that I strongly suggest you take is this:

Don't cover it up. No one can destroy your life over something that's already out in the open, but if you try to keep it a secret and it's leaked, well, say goodbye to Hollywood...

Hmmm.. I am starting to realized how simple life can be as satisfying one as any others... (LOL) Thanks for your advice...

I don't quite understand. Come again?

If I become a farmer, nobody would want to reveal negative asepcts of me.... but if I live a more complicated lilfe like a businesswoman, I would have some risk... that's what I meant

I know LACs aren't on your list but Swarthmore College is very gay-friendly. I know for a fact there are already transgendered individuals on campus who haven't faced any prejudice or discrimination.

Also, Hamilton had several transgenders according to my ex-boyfriend who visited there last month.

Anyway, I hope you find an embracing and accepting college! :)

As a transperson in college right now, I just want to say that a "gay-friendly" school does not necessarily mean that the school is also trans-friendly. While gay-friendly really only relates to the campus atmosphere, being trans-friendly requires a lot more and it mostly has to do with policies. Look at the school's housing policies, gender options on forms, do they have all-gender bathrooms? I'm at a LAC right now with a very strong trans community and support system, but I realize that you want a larger school.

I don't really have any more recommendations (other than I know CMU does a decent job of dealing with trans issues) and don't have much insight into your selection of schools. But I wish you the best of luck in your application process.

What is LAC...?

LAC = liberal arts college.

Generally, LACs are smaller schools in terms of enrollment, (under 4000 students.) LACs that are, (I imagine,) probably pretty trans friendly include: Bard C, Sarah Lawrence C, Wesleyan U, Macalester C, Hampshire C.

Please let me know if you would proof-read my essay about this topic. I personally prefer people in college but please feel free to let me know if you are interested even if you are in high school. Thanks a lot in advance~!
