Transition from University of Toronto to Europe

I am an international graduate student (majoring engineering) at University of Toronto (UofT). I’d just started my studies from fall 2016. There are some real problems, now, and could be mentioned as below:

  • The high risk of no financial support for the second year, as my supervisor, frankly, declared.
  • Unsuitable atmosphere in our group in view of the relations between faculty members and current tense atmosphere, grabbing the concentration to study and research.
  • Other minor stuffs...

The succession of aforesaid stuffs has driven me to decide to apply again. According to my background and communications with a faculty member, I have a noticeable chance to be admitted into a first-class master course at a world-known British university.

Some people, here, just saying that I should stay and endure the problems, because UofT might be big a shot for anyone to get into the American top schools for Ph.D. Furthermore, they stress on the importance of having a degree from UofT for finding a good job in Canada and immigrating, whereas England is not a very good place for immigration, comparably.

All in all, I’m not confident to decide… Staying or leaving?..
Have you any opinion about the case?..

If you’re interested in engineering, the best university would be UWaterloo. UBC and McGill are pretty good too - so, you could apply there to start with (they may even accept Spring transfers). You could increase your odds by applying to UK universities too but they don’t offer any financial aid to internationals so if aid is an issue, it’d be a problem. Remember the Oct 15 deadline for either Oxford or Cambridge.

The U of T M.Eng program is a one year program. Why would you need a second year? Waterloo doesn’t provide funding for M.Eng students at all.

I’m in M.A.Sc. track, not M.Eng one…
