Has anyone been to both or perhaps one or the other? The airline offers a free multi day layover (in Portugal), so it’s easy to do. While Morocco doesn’t have the same, it seems interesting.
Anyone with experience - it’d be just three days - I guess since we don’t normally travel overseas, not sure what we want - but to see different things that we normally wouldn’t.
What did you do there? What did you enjoy? Any tips - like hiring a guide or must-see things.
Been to both; would go back to Portugal in a heartbeat. Morocco is interesting and we could have planned it better (hopped over somewhat on a whim while in Spain) but I don’t have the same desire to go back.
It’s been almost 20 years, but Portugal remains a favorite among the places I’ve visited. The geography/climate/cultural centers are not unlike California! Warm beaches to the south, wine country to the north. We road-tripped throughout the country and I think the Douro Valley was my favorite section of the trip. Be sure to check out the Pousadas de Portugal for accommodations. Many historic sites were turned into very interesting hotels, formerly state-run:
I visited Lisbon last October for 4 days after a cruise. I very much enjoyed my stay. I did a wine and food walking tour, a tuk tuk old town tour, a day trip out of the city. I though food was great and was very safe to walk around. I would go back again.
My family and I did this 3-4 years ago when we went. I second your idea! Super great and friendly people. My younger D (the HS Sr) did not like as much as baccalau dominated the menu and she does not care for it.
I’ve been to both places. I find Morocco fascinating, spice markets, leather factory, souks. Love their food, especially those cooked in tagines. However, if you only have 3 days, I agree Portugal is easier as there are way too many sights to see in Morocco.
I don’t think it’s challenging at all to eat fishless in Lisbon. There are a number of absolutely fantastic Italian restaurants, just like everywhere else in Europe.
