My brother is a freshman in high school who's smitten with Dartmouth. Does anyone know how Dartmouth looks on siblings? Is there any advantage? Thanks.

I think they treat you individually on your individual merits.

i hope so, cuz my sister also wants to apply…she’s EDing next year

I do know one girl whose sister graduated from D last year, applied early this year and was rejected. Don’t know much about her stats, other than the fact that despite battling cancer she managed a 4.0 gpa/rigorous courseload… personally I was surprised that she wasn’t at least deferred and/or waitlisted

but obviously, there are tons of examples on both sides, and anecdotal evidence doesn’t tell you much

the links above are to articles that appeared in The Dartmouth (daily newspaper) recently…regarding siblings at the school. kind of interesting, if not really related to the OP’s initial question

I know several pairs of siblings. Definitely some advantage.

It’s a tip if you’re there when the sib applies.

I don’t know if it helps as much as people think. My HS’s Val this year (with a sibling at Dartmouth) didn’t get in. I think what causes many siblings here is that siblings have a higher rate of applying, and the reasons for the first sibling getting in is often similar for the younger sibling… such as being a legacy or a high-achieving URM.

Basically everybody here tries to convince their siblings to apply. Knowing that, there aren’t THAT many sibling pairs that I know of. The most common reason for siblings being here is that they are both legacies.
