I need to take some schools off my list because application fees are really adding up. My safeties are CSU: San Francisco, San Jose, and San Diego. Im keeping San Francisco for sure and im considering taking off San Jose. But my fear is that i dont get accepted to San Diego and then im left with only 1 safety. My match schools are University of Washington, Depaul, University of Toronto, and University of San Francisco. My reach schools are American, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and Seattle University. Those are 11 schools but American University app fee is free. So basically 10 schools all at about 50-60 dollars each. I need help trimming my list stuff you should know is i want to major in International Relations and im a low socioeconomic background hispanic from CA.

You might want to start thinking about trimming down on some of these threads before you start trimming down your list of schools...

If University of Washington is a match, then you should be in at San Diego. If money is an issue, I wouldn't really bother applying to San Jose State...San Francisco is probably a more appropriate school for IR.

If you want to major in IR, keep American for sure on your list. That and UC Davis would probably be your top choices. I'd consider taking off Seattle University...I hadn't heard of it until now heard of it, and according to collegeboard.com, the school doesn't even offer an International Relations major. Same with UC Irvine, there is no IR major there. University of Washington would be a good fit, as would Depaul and probably the University of Toronto.

I can't say for sure until I see your stats, but based on what you've told me, I'm thinking you can cut your list down to 8 schools:

Reach:

American University
UC Davis

Match:

University of San Francisco
University of Toronto
Depaul University
University of Washington

Safeties:

San Diego State University
San Francisco State University

That narrows it down to 8 schools. If you are applying for International Relations, though, you might want to consider marking off UC Riverside too. Based on what you've said here, you would have a fair chance at getting in. Plus, you'd just have to mark it off on the UC application as a school you're applying to. However, I definitely think you'd want to post your stats before anything else, so the people at this forum might have a clearer idea of your chances...do you know what your high school GPA is, and what your SAT scores might be like? Also, what grade are you currently in? Junior or Senior?

Im really sorry about the triple post, it was a computer error. UC Riverside? really i have never heard anything about UC Riverside and IR. Some schools dont have IR directly listed but they international studies with like concentration on politics or some variation like that. You kept University of San Francisco on there which is suprising since i have never heard of it go with IR.

Reach:
UC Davis

Match:
American University
University of San Francisco
University of Toronto
University of Washington

Safety:
Seattle University
Depaul University
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University

I'd get rid of either Seattle or DePaul, or both. And, I believe you have only one reach, hence the above list.

..............................

utoronto is match while davis is reach??!?!?!

don't get rid of depaul, it's a sweet school

I am suprised no one has requested for University of San Francisco to be taken off. So I'm going to infer that it would be a good school for IR? OVer all with SJSU off and Seattle University is my list adequate? Any schools i should add? I'm really nervous to say "my list is finalized"

I've had friends get into UToronto but not UC-Davis....that's why I listed it that way.

Would replacing UCI for UCSB be a good choice? UCSB has poli sci with a concentration on IR. UCI has international studies which seems to parallel IR on some aspects. Any ideas? I've also heard USF's campus is pretty ugly, anyone else heard the same? Also to anyone else applying for American University, how many letters of recommendations are you submitting? It says they are encouraged but a number is not specified.

You may qualify for fee waivers. Talk to your high school counselor.
