[/ul]

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):

[ul]
[] Common App Main: Identity - talked about how I was born into a poor traditional Taiwanese family full of love in the countryside, but now can finance college education overseas/live in city/more globalized mindset. sincerity 10/10, but the writing itself probably more like a 7/10.
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: secondary principle + my AP stats teacher + my extended essay advisor. she knows me super well. can easily point out my weaknesses but also knows my strengths and ways of thinking. dunno probably 9/10
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: chinese teacher for G10~12 + I tell her everything. again knows me super well but I have bad grades in chinese because i kind of slack off at times… which i’m hoping to change. we have similar views on education and stuff. probably also 9/10
[] Counselor Rec: counselor knows me really well, is a great, intelligent person. i trust him a lot. but again he knows my weaknesses too i don’t know what he wrote about them. so probably 9/10 too.
[] Additional Rec: peer rec (was that allowed for trinity? :open_mouth: ) if it was then i did submit one. best friend. known for 10 years. talked about my passion and dedication for academics and other areas and explained my weaknesses as prioritizing my peers XD he wrote this without me asking for it. and included that in the rec. 9/10 probably.
[] Interview: n/a
[li] Art Supplement: music - piano thing plus resume. probably helped a bit, because I want to be a music and/or math major. included 3 pieces, baroque, classical, and romantic. 8/10 probably :P[/li][/ul]

Other

[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: the day it was due… :stuck_out_tongue:
[] Country (if international applicant): Taiwan
[] School Type: private, international school
[] Ethnicity: full-on Asian
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: not super rich but have saved up enough for college tuition.
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): n/a[/li][/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[] Strengths: ECs and recs
[] Weaknesses: GPA, especially the very sharp drop (2.6 uw in senior year…)
[] Why you think you were accepted: ECs and recs really show my love for learning and being involved, and art supplement/music clubs/IB music course show my love for music while math competitions/SAT II/IB math HL course show my love for math.
[] What would you have done differently?: took TOEFL again instead of being lazy. my TOEFL was 114 but it expired because i took it too early :P. also… worked harder in senior year to prevent GPA drop. but i guess that drop really taught me some life lessons and made me a lot less arrogant and snobby and “stereotypical Asian”-y. and now i can really relate to some other people in class except just my scholarly friends. which is awesome.
[/ul]

*General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: Congrats to everyone who got into trinity/other great colleges  good luck with waitlist/colleges that haven’t gotten back to you yet! sincerely wish you all the best. and fellow asian students: I know the “Asian expectations” which are not far from the stereotypes. they can be brutal at times. hope nobody gives you guys a hard time about college decisions! good luck! *

Reflection
Strengths: essay, extra curriculars, course rigor, sat score
Weaknesses: grades
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I visited the school twice and gave an interview, and I think my application overall was pretty strong for this school. I’m also really passionate about dance and I think that I conveyed that well through my application. Also I can afford it which apparently helps.
What would you have done differently? Nothing I got in lol
Other schools: Accepted at Franklin and Marshall, Binghamton, Dickinson, and Geneseo, Rejected from Middlebury, Waiting on Connecticut College, Wesleyan, and Hamilton

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: I’m really excited about getting in!!! This is one of my top choices! Congrats to those who also got in and good luck to those who were rejected or wait listed!

For those of you who were offered The Presidential Scholarship, how much is that per year (and total amount)? Also what did this require- an interview, special application? Thanks.

@goingnutsmom

I’m not sure how much it is in dollar value–but it’s a full-ride scholarship. As for your other question, it’s determined based on your application alone, nothing extra.

@goingnutsmom: It’s a full-tuition grant for all four years based solely on the application (and on the condition of keeping at least a 4.0). To be more specific, the top five percent of applicants apparently receive it.
