I saw this a bit ago. Maybe it helps explain why Trinity has some great financial aid offers this year?
Wanted to let folks know that we just had a quick conversation with Financial Aid. They said that the 2023-24 tuition and fees should be released at the beginning of April. All admitted students receiving financial aid should receive a detailed breakdown of direct costs and aid per semester mailed to their house by mid-April.
Is Trinity open to negotiation on their financial aid offers?
With all these SLAC schools that meet all need, I have heard they will negotiate somewhat if you have an lower offer from a peer school. It seems to vary widely how much though.
I saw it said online: "Requests for reevaluation must be in writing and must include a detailed description of your familyās unique circumstances. Reevaluation of your financial aid eligibility is subject to federal regulations and institutional policies. Submit your letter of appeal to the Financial Aid Appeal Committee at FAAppeal@trincoll.edu. "
Even if we were to negotiate a better offer, I wonder to what degree the same level of support would be offered for the second year (if our financial situation stays the same) vs them going back to what they initially offered us for the first year as their final offer for the second year (wouldnāt want to make a decision based on a first year offer that is not sustainable into the last three years)
Oh I would love to know this answer as well. My Daughter got in but no aid at all.
Well, they offered the standard $5k loanā¦
In case itās helpful for other people, I wanted to mention that my S23 is not able to attend the admitted student days next weekend so we set up a personalized visit through admissions and it was really helpful. He did āCoffee with a Bantamā on campus (can be booked online) and then we talked to admissions and asked about him meeting with a faculty member. They gave him the name of a faculty member in his area (neuro/chem) who had volunteered to meet with admitted students and s23 emailed him directly to set it up.
They had a wonderful meeting. It almost felt like an advising session. It was so nice to meet a faculty member before next fall and the prof was very impressive.
Good luck to everyone!
I donāt know the answer to this, but we booked an online financial aid appointment with Trinity online and they were helpful. I would encourage you to do the same. One of our questions was in what situations our financial package would change over the upcoming years. We also asked about opportunities for being a resident assistant/fellow and how that would impact finances.
Good idea- thank you!
Thanks for sharing! I had no idea this was even an option. Will have my S23 pursue the same track, as he also canāt make it to CT next weekend.
My son made his final decision and we put down the deposit for Trinity today! Ironically, one thing he didnāt like about it is that I am an alumnae Once he got past that, he started getting excited. Good luck to everyone else still making their decisions!
Congats on the decision. Heading for another visit tomorrow to help make decisions. I loved it on my first visit but had little interaction with students. I went to a public hs of about 1700 so a little smaller than Trinity. My high school vibe was diverse in every way economically, culturally, politically, find your fit but most groups got along as diversity was valued- While I blend w lots of groups, I donāt really see myself as a frat guy- Iām pretty liberal and def on the lower ses side for Trinity- want to make sure I have a social life if not in a fratā¦
Anyone know anything about campus dining. Iāve read some things about it being terrible.
Long Walk is cool. Best of luck to your son, @MBWhitney.
Congrats! My daughter has decided on Trinity as well and it seems like they were looking at a lot of similar schools (Conn, Hamilton, Wes, etc). We are going to admitted students day tomorrow and she is looking forward to learning even more about the school.
I hope your visit goes well. You sound a lot like my S23. His public high school is 1600 students and is 40% students of color. Although heās white, he cared about being in an environment with a significant amount of racial and cultural diversity. In addition to looking at stats, that was one thing he was eyeballing when he walked around last week. Heās also not interested in frats. Although weāre middle class, he knows that compared to many others at Trinity, he will have a much lower SES.
ETA- Iām in a parent group that talks a lot about the food. Apparently they made a bunch of changes this past February? They added options to the Bistro, which students like. My son is planning on doing the more flexible meal plan where he can eat at the bistro, Cave or dining hall, as it seems to be the students stuck with just the dining hall (& those with food allergies especially) having the issues.
Yay! Congrats to your daughter as well! I hope she has a great time at the admitted student day. An exciting time.
Thanks for the feedback. Iām accepted to ISP life science so hoping that gives me a community of folks. Figure Iāll get a vibe tomorrow.
My son met with a Chem professor and he mentioned that the students in the ISP program each get faculty mentors the first year and opportunities for research. The professor was very excited about the program. I think it made my son wish he had taken the time/energy to apply last fall in the midst of application season.
