Made this thread for any of us who’ve been waitlisted 2021 RD
Hey @adlor21
I was waitlisted at Trinity and I’m clueless about what I’m gonna do about it. Can you please tell me what are a few things we could do to increase our chances of acceptance?
PS: I’m an international student.
Did anyone hear from the college yet?
I have not
Nothing yet
Anyone heard anything?
Nope
Sorry to be possibly the bearer of bad news, but it doesn’t look so likely that Trinity will go to its waitlist this year, given the relatively high “yield” they’re reporting: http://www.trincoll.edu/NewsEvents/NewsArticles/pages/EnrollmentClassOf2021.aspx
Still, things can change a lot over the summer. Good luck to you all.
@LACluster How do you know this? They had a 30% yield this year which is very low, which would open up 50-100 spots.
Got accepted off the waitlist!
That’s awesome @adlor21! Congrats…Was it a call, yesterday? Knew they’d take people!
@ShwanTK Thanks! Yes, yesterday they sent me an email as well as a call from my regional admissions officer.
Congratulations @adlor21 And for the statistics, let me explain it a little bit.
They accepted “1691” to the class of 2021. In the article that @LACluster mentioned, they say that their yield is 30% which makes the number of students deciding to enroll to be “507”.
Now in this article they also mentioned that a total of “604” students have been enrolled as of 16th May 2017. Which mean that 604-507= “97” students have been accepted from the waitlist so far which is a massive number.
But unlucky students like me haven’t been accepted yet. :’(
I’m an International Student, didn’t submit the SATs or the TOEFL score. Didn’t take any AP or Honors classes or IB.
No! I’m not IGCSE student. I have very humble degree of “High School Certificate” of my country. What I think got me to be placed on waitlist were maybe my Essays (which I wrote 1 day before the deadline :P).
But I actually did submit my SAT and TOEFL score after being waitlisted. (P.S: SAT Score 1200/1600 SAT Bio-M: 660)(TOEFL 98; R20, L28, W27, S23)
The actual downside of my application I believe is the amount of aid I asked for.
I mentioned in the CSS profile that I can pay only $4K/anum meaning I need almost full fees aid.
BTW, I have almost lost hope because they were contact someone like me, they would have done it long ago.
Thanks
@adlor21 hey!! could u share any tips for getting off the waitlist? did you email them or do anything that u think increased your chances? I’m an international and asked for quite a lot of aid, and then due to a change in the cincunstances asked for lesser aid but that didn’t seem to help. what else should i do?
@anthror What I did was send them a letter of continued interest, basically telling them that I really would like to go there and if I were to be accepted, I would attend 100%. My guidance counselor also personally called the admissions office on my behalf. That helped me a lot. Since Trinity meets 100% of financial need, I think a big reason why I was waitlisted was because I needed a lot of aid.
@adlor21 i also sent them a letter of continued interest and emphasised that i wouldn’t definitely attend if offered admission! . do you think i should ask my counsellor to email/call them? since I’m from a big school i don’t have a really personal relationship with my counsellor but she knows me well enough to call them on my behalf and put in a word for me. do you think i should do that? I’m an international student
@anthror For international students, it’s a lot more uncertain. To be quite honest, I don’t think there is much you could do at this point. The deadline for me to accept/decline my offer of admission is today, May 19th.
@adlor21 are you accepting it? and yeah it sucks to be an international student
@anthror Yes, I have accepted it
Are they still reviewing the applications for the waitlist or they are done? Do you think internationals have a chance of getting in or they will look only for citizens? cuz intls require a lot of aid.
