Trinity College's (Connecticut) Academic Reputation

Hi,
I am currently at the tail end of my college search and my frontrunner is definitely Trinity. I was wondering how is Trinity’s academic reputation and if their graduates find good jobs out of college or grad schools. For me I plan on going into rather business or law. If anyone has any news on the statistics on how many people go to good Wall Street firms (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc) or the admissions rate into top notch law schools (Harvard, Stanford, etc). This is probably my “biggest smallest” concern right now about this school.
If anyone could give me some insight that would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

By initial employment prospects, Trinity graduates appear to land quite well (reply #9): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/2023024-nescac-schools-alumni.html#latest

Some law schools, such as Harvard, do post the undergraduate colleges attended by their students: http://hls.harvard.edu/dept/jdadmissions/apply-to-harvard-law-school/undergraduate-colleges/. You should be able to find others. I’d caution against using any single year as representative though.

A degree from Trinity will not hold you back.

A great choice - good luck!

@sdgilsdgjk23, Wesleyan, Amherst and Bowdoin appear to have the the best results of the NESCAC colleges. All three schools are represented at Harvard and Yale.

@sdgjlsdgjk23, add Hamilton and Middlebury as NESCAC’s represented at Harvard Law School http://hls.harvard.edu/dept/jdadmissions/apply-to-harvard-law-school/undergraduate-colleges/

But not Yale

@sdgjlsdgjk23, here’s UVA’s school from 2018 (it’s the last year they listed all of the schools represented). As noted, NESCAC schools are well represented with Bowdoin, Hamilton and Trinity https://content.law.virginia.edu/admissions/class-2018-profile

Regarding Harvard Law (reply #1), I’d initially misread that and thought that Trinity (CT) was represented this year, @sdgjlsdgjk23.

@sdgjlsdgjk23 Regarding employment on Wall Street. Have you looked at Amherst and Middlebury?
Fwiw- I know a number of Trinity alumni and all have done very well.

Using student-level data provided by LinkedIn, the following colleges and universities send the highest percentage of graduates to “Wall Street.”

Amherst
Baruch
Boston College
Columbia
Cornell
Dartmouth
Duke
Georgetown
Harvard
Middlebury
NYU
Princeton
Rutgers
University of Michigan
University of Notre Dame
University of Pennsylvania
Wake Forest
Wellesley
Villanova
Yale

Amherst and Middlebury profile substantially differently than Trinity, and would in my opinion be poor suggestions lacking further context.

Relax Merc ;)…I didn’t suggest OP apply to Amherst or Middlebury.
I asked if he had looked at the colleges in an effort to understand what colleges he had researched.

My son went to one of the school’s on the LinkedIn list. He scored a coveted Wall Street position. His co-workers includes grads from many schools not on the list (e.g. UMiss and Allegheny). My point is yes, you can succeed. Networking is the key! Another son attended a school not on the list and he is in the hunt. He gets super days with the biggest names.

We enjoyed our visit to Trinity some years ago. Trinity has good network.

Thank you all for responding. I am a recruited athlete and Trinity was able to offer me a spot on the their team. How good is their networking then, I know everyone says that it is good, but how good is it?

It’s a great school in a great D3 athletic conference. Like everything else in life it comes down to what your other options are. What’s your academic profile and are there other coaches reaching out and/or responding to your inquiries?

Trinity has a nice internship program in government taking advantage of being located in the state Capitol. Since you are interested in law, that could be beneficial.

Other NESCAC schools not mentioned
Conn College is on both the Harvard and UVA lists
Tufts is on all three (Harvard, Yale and UVA) lists

I’d say my academic profile is average but not super strong. I just took my official recruiting trip last weekend.

Given the highly selective nature of most of the NESCAC schools, it would seem that Trinity and Connecticut College would be likely with an avg profile; there are likely other choices in the Centennial Conference, excluding ones like JHU, Haverford and Swarthmore.

Not to dissuade you at all because I think both Trinity and Conn College could provide what you’re looking for, but have you visited? Trinity’s in my backyard. While they have a beautiful campus and good academics, the neighborhood is a big drawback. There are safety concerns on that campus. My daughter’s swim team practices there daily. Also, they do have a reputation (more than any other schools we’ve researched) for partying and rampant drug use. Just a few things you might want to think about.
