I am deciding between Trinity and Skidmore. I'd like to hear more about the likes and dislikes of Trinity.Ffor current students, how are the professors? Do you find the coursework challenging?
Can you describe your friendships at Trinity? How is campus life?
Do you take advantage of Hartford?
How do you describe the students at Trinity (from a social and political perspective)?

Trinity= more preppy, conservative, athletic, better academic rep
Skidmore= very liberal, artsy, much better college town than hartford

I would say the two are pretty on par, academically and reputationally speaking. I do agree with huskem that Trinity is much more conservative and New England prep. Skidmore has a slightly more diverse population (among the white NE prep school kids :)) and the town of Saratoga can't be beat.

Trinity is held in higher regard academically. But, it's in Hartford. Hartford is, however, being gentrified. Supposedly the area around TC is ok. I like Trinity over Skidmore, but that's just me.

I have a lot of friends from Trinity, most of whom fall into a certain "type". For me, I needed something that gave me more breathing room to be an individual, which is why I chose Skidmore (over schools like Hamilton, Bates, Conn. College, which directly compete with Trinity.)

I'm not very familiar with Skidmore, but I would agree that Trinity has a better academic reputation. The student population tends to be on the conservative side, but that's a matter of perspective, of course. I'm actually friendly with several of the faculty members at Trinity and think that they are all outstanding scholars. Hartford is not a selling point, but if you have a car there is quite a bit to do.

Trinity definitely has a much stronger academic reputation. I get the feel from people I've met (like previous posters have stated) that Trinity has the more conservative feel more like Colgate, Dartmouth, Williams, Middlebury while Skidmore has more of the artsy, liberal bent more like Vassar, Wesleyan, Bates, Conn College.
