Trinity's Reputation

@Noairair How does your daughter find the surrounding areas to be? I’m an int’l student so really have no idea what to expect of Hartford - how safe is the city, is it really as boring as people say on the internet? How bike-friendly is Trinity’s campus and the surrounding area? Are there supermarkets near the campus? Thank you in advance!

@blackmirror I’m also hoping to get into ISP

ya mean NESCAC?

@jonathanaf There isn’t any separate application for the ISP program right? Students who’ve been selected will hear back in early March is what I’ve read.

@blackmirror DS applied ED and was deferred to RD but now has other options he is considering since I don’t think the financials will work for Trinity as they just became the most expensive school in CT. We’ll see how it all plays out. Congratulations to you and best of luck at Trinity!

@magnetnh There is still hope! How did your son’s interview go? Trinity is big on demonstrated interest, and again, they’re quite generous with financial aid this year (they even added a $1000 dollar grant amount to my financial aid package after I emailed them because they weren’t meeting my 100% need per year). So I’d say your son should consider writing a LOCI / update email if Trinity is still one of his top choices. I obviously am not aware of your special circumstances, so just my 2 cents. I hope all works out good for your son! Thank you for the best wishes :slight_smile:

@blackmirror I don’t remember what the counselor told my daughter about Trinity’s reputation. But I will say that once you get to college – any college – it’s up to you to make choices and decisions. No one at Trinity will try to force you to do anything you don’t want to do. You will find many friends who think like you do. As far as ISP goes, I would advise you to write a letter introducing yourself to the ISP director, Alison Draper, if you want to join that program. Doing that will put you on her radar. In college, you have to ask for what you want.

@Lulee1 Thanks for your advice! I emailed Alison Draper while I was writing my supplement and we exchanged a few emails regarding the ISP and talked about a few professors. So I think I do have a chance of getting into that program

@blackmirror So I exchanged emails with Doctor Draper last week and in her email she mentioned that they will start the admission process for ISP starting from late March, which is after the RD applicant’s get their decision. She said she will follow up with me once they start the process. Basically, they will ask you to write an one page essay on your interest in science and also explaining why you think ISP would be a good fit for your interests and personal characteristics. I suggest you send her another email and gently remind her that you are interested in ISP so she could follow up with you once they start the process.

@jonathanaf Ah I see. Thanks!

Can anyone give me some insight as to what an interview at Trinity is like? Is it evaluative or low stress? Is it conducted by an admissions officer or students? What kinds of questions do they ask? Thanks!

@blackmirror. Im told that a lot of students use scooters or skateboards. The campus isn’t the most bike friendly. There is a major supermarket not far from campus. Some kids uber but you can take the city bus for free. Truthfully most kids stay on campus or uber off campus to nearby West Hartford for shopping & restaurants. The area around the school isnt tge nicest though there is a route to downtown or the capital area if you go with others. My dau is in thr middle of her 2nd semester. When asked about transferring, her response was “no way”. She’s happy. Was a good fit academically & socially for her. And she was not from an elite prep school but rather public school.

Why was she asked about transferring /

Her first choice was Brown so I wondered if she were interested in giving it another shot. Not at all.

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook group for accepted students? D is interested in being a part of that.

yes there is! I’m in it, just look up on facebook Trinity College CT class of 2022

My daughter is attending Trinity in a few weeks. It was her number one choice after many visits to many other colleges. Trinity has a small merit aid fund. Students are chosen for these small scholarships through the admissions process. My daughter received a Trinity grant and a stafford loan - no merit aid. Her intended major will be neuroscience. She did not want to go far - no more than two hours away. She loved the small classroom sizes, academic and wellness/counseling accommodations and the campus. Trinity was her first choice, then Bates and then Holy Cross. So far, I have had a great experience interacting with staff at Trinity as it pertains to the health and wellness center, academic accommodations; dorming, the financial aid office and admissions office. Very prompt and responsive and very accommodating.
