Trip to American University

We are planning to visit AU campus this summer. Any suggestions about college? I would also like to get some info about DC, where to stay, places to see if we’re only going to be for a day?

Staying in DC itself is very expensive. What I did when I visited Georgetown, GW, and American was stay in the suburbs (in my case, Rockville MD) and take the metro to DC each day. It is quick, clean, and cheap. You also won't have to deal with the legendary DC traffic.

As far as places to see, just do the standard DC affair if you're only there for a day--monuments, White House, Capitol, and museums.

Unless you know how to drive in DC, stay in the burbs and take the metro in.

I already booked a downtown hotel (2 blocks from the Mall) after visiting AU.

While in school in DC, you rarely make it out to the 'burbs, I would have suggested to stay downtown... If you are only there for a day I would do the tour of AU as early in the morning as possible, then head to the zoo or Gtown for the rest of the afternoon. You can do the monuments at night since the crowds are gone and it won't be 23098230 degrees outside.

Good luck!

I would also like to hear someone's opinion about AU as a school. The open house we are going to start at 10 a.m. and should be over by 4 p.m.

You are going to have to narrow that down...academics? athletics? community?

Let's begin with academics.

Well, there are a number of threads here that touch on different programs, professors, etc. What do you want to study? What school are you applying to? What do you want to get out of the program? Each program is unique, so I can't give you a clear answer until you narrow it down...

My D is interested in International Business. I would like to find out about School of Business, and also about AU in general - the school itself, surroundings, life in DC.
