I think the same about wedding and baby showers, I'm a guy but I can't comprehend how someone can have a party expecting handouts.

better never give your kids a birthday party then.

are the people here who think it's trashy to have a party to get presents going to tell me that when they were younger they never looked forward to birthday parties partly because it meant presents? Sweet Sixteens? Bar/Bat-Mitzvah's? Give me a break.

Lol, I didn't have a "trunk party"- but most of my relatives gave me stuff like that at my graduation party. Some of them just gave me money, but some of them bought me sheets, a coffee/tea-maker, and stuff like that.

I'd like to have a few pants parties in college

anyway, you don't really need that much for college. I'm just gonna take stuff from my house.

there's a huge difference between looking forward to presents and throwing a party for the sole purpose of getting them.

trunk parties are very common, I live in Chicago and go to one at least twice a year. It’s when people come over and bring things that you may need in college

It’s mainly because the parents are paying so much money for their child to just get into college and they dont have the money to get the things that they need for their dorm so they throw a party for friends and family only to help by things for the college student

hahaha thats what i thought too

Buy your own stuff

If your friends have “trunk parties” too, wouldn’t you end up buying a whole bunch of college stuff for them instead of just buying your own stuff in the first place?

yeah except you only buy them a few things and you still receive all of what you need

I’m from Philly and we throw trunk parties all the time… I am actually giving my daughter one on Sunday. You have the student register at somewhere like Walmart or Target under “wish list.” Your friends then purchase those items. Throwing the party is simple, jus some food…some music and a game or two…jus like a bridal shower. They are a lotta fun and truly a big help to the parents.

Yeah trunk party seems to equal graduation party. Same basic idea.
