trunk party

I was wondering if any of you guys have had or are going to have a trunk party for college (Party where people buy you the things you'll need for college...sheets, mini fridges, poster, etc). If so how do you prevent people from buying the same things? Do you have to register at a store like a one would do for a wedding? Thanks people.

never heard of a trunk party

That's crazy, I've never heard of that. If this actually happens, I'll have to throw a trunk party.

I hope you have a large trunk because I'm going to put my bike in it.

ive never heard of a trunk party...mostly people get gift cards for container store and target and stuff at graduation parties.

is this a common thing in chicago? I've never heard of something like this.

chicago must be weird. a trunk party? never heard of it.

alot of people here told me I should have one so maybe it is a Chicago thing

lol Senior89

never heard of it either, but if you need to register for it, Bed Bath and Beyond has a college registry.

I'm in chicago and have never heard of this

never heard of it either

I'm not making it up
but thanks anyway people

Oh yeah, most of my family members have had a trunk party. It's like a bridal shower for college students. I know that I'll have one when I go to college. It's a great way to get things you'll need for college.

Maybe it is a Chicago thing.

I could never have a party with the intention of getting presents. I would feel like such a pathetic loser.

Just my opinion about myself not saying I would think of other people having one. I HATE getting birthday and christmas presents too, I never want them.

Trunk is a figure of speech here. Back in the day before TVs and mini fridges, people did fit stuff in trunks.

What I did was told my family members to give me cash. I then bought my own fridge and microwave, plus I had savings for a laptop. I didn't go to senior prom and used the cash I set aside for that to buy a laser printer and had $100 left to bank. I bought clothes with the cash I had already saved up, and just took the furniture, bookcases, TV, etc I already had.

With my friends, I had them over for a breakfast that I cleverly disguised as a graduation celebration. I made it sort of a going away thing but also had my old stuff out on display like most people do at grad parties. One of them gave me a $25 gift card because he felt it was a grad party, but the rest didn't offer anything. This was good--I didn't want to be flooded with stuff I wouldn't use. I used the gift card on a few minor things like VHS tapes for my VCR so I could record TV shows that I might miss.

As far as giving my friends stuff, I go to a lot of Pittsburgh Pirates games. When my family goes, we get a ton of extra bobblehead dolls on bobblehead nights. So each of my friends got a bobblehead. Unique gift, had hometown spirit, looks great on a desk/dresser. Some of them get hand-crafted wood items from me if they're really special. I also gave each one of them a DVD that I made of our times together. I also gave one such DVD to a freshman because she was awesome.

Never heard the term "trunk party" used around here, but soon they will have registry like they do for bridal showers.

i guess it is a chicago thing, because everybody i know is having one. i don't think you really can stop people from getting you the same thing with out explicitly tellin people what you want?

I think it is a fine idea and it's cool that many Chicago kids get away to go to college out of state.

that's so disgusting...inviting people to a party where they buy you stuff for college? AKA trolling for presents? that sounds really cheap. no offense meant to the OP though--don't take it personally. i'm talking about the idea of a trunk party! god.

^^It's no different than a wedding or baby shower

I'm sure no one cares but I had my trunk party yesterday and it was a sucess

for those who think its crazy...well my family is poor so we really can't afford all the things that I'll be needed for school and if my family and friends want to help me out with it I see no problem. But thats me personally if you can afford to pay for all the things that you need then it would be bad to have a trunk party
